Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a goblet. This pours a thick dark brown which doesn't much light through with a short lived tan head. The smells are very malts, some caramel, molasses and other malts. The feel is medium to thick. The taste seems a little off, I'm not sure how to describe it, the other reviews say peat, there is also some alcohol present along with lots of excessive malts caramel and molasses. I definitely like the old chub more than this.

A - Pours a dark ruby red colour, finger of head with some retention and sporadic lacing.

S - Complex and unique. The scent off the top is reminiscent of soya sauce, but then nutty malts, chocolate, peat, smoke toffee, leather and caramel come through.

T - Intensely flavoured ale, caramel dominates alongside some cocoa, peat flavours are present, some burnt toast and leather also come through. ABV heat is subdued and the sweetness complements the flavour.

M - Medium bodied, but comes across a tad syropy. Finish is surprisingly wet.

O - A tasty wee heavy and not for the faint of heart. This is a bold beer and should be respected as such. Definitely worth a try.

Pours into a rich chestnut with a bit less head than I was expecting. Slight lacing and decent retention.

The aroma is pretty nice. Immediately after opening it I had a decent idea what I was in for. There was an initial peat blast and alcohol sharpness which while not offensive, nudged at the fact that this was a scotch ale.

The taste is very much like a scotch ale but flipped. While many have underlying complexities and simpler surfaces, for lack of a better word, this had most of it's complexity at the surface and a simpler foundation.

It brings perhaps the most peat I've had in a beer yet and tends to deliver what you'd expect, but more of it.

The mouthfeel is Medium full and a bit less than medium weight. The finish is mildly dry and slightly sticky. Tremendously creamy and easy to roll around.

Overall, at first this seemed like a less balanced version of the style, which I somewhat think is true still, but after seeing that, I found that I really enjoyed the intensity of all the scotch goodness. As much as this style seems heavier to start, this seems like an imperial version of the Scotch Ale.
