Drank on-tap at the Samuel Adams Brewery, Boston, MA
Served in a Samuel Adams 7 fl. oz. tasting glass

I was lucky to try this brewery-only release on a recent Samuel Adams Brewery tour.

The beer poured a slightly hazed, pale straw yellow with a creamy, one-finger, eggshell colored head.

The aroma was very mild initially. Slightly yeasty and lemony. As the beer warmed, the nose came out a bit more. Spices were noticeable. Ginger and grains of paradise were detectable.

Clean and refreshing on the palate. Slightly sweet and malty up front. Spicy in the center with notes of ginger, coriander and grains of paradise. The finish was a bit skunky with some mild German hop notes.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied for the style. Creamy and smooth with a fine yet crisp effervescence.

Drinkability was impressive. Kölsch beers are noted for being light and refreshing and this winter version proved to be something new and unique.
