[Original rating 2011-06-17] Coppery color. Not much smell at all, maybe some sweetness (caramel?) and some earth but I’m having a tough time getting any aroma. Taste is a little stronger, but nothing memorable. Good balance but over all pretty bland.

Solid orange appearance, 3/4" white head, plenty of clarity. Aroma was hoppy and all about that CTZ goodness.

Minimal amounts of caramel help out a sturdy ibu presence that isn't all bitterness, there is a peppery edge, citrus, grapefruit, pine, aspect to the beer. For a single hop beer, this one comes off more than just one dimensional, you'd think there was a medley of hops in it given the flavor range. Good stuff.

11/26....pours medium dark amber with white foam. Settles out completely. Nose is resin/pine. Very strong bitter forward flavor. Cuts through the sweetness. Nice blend.

Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Pours orange red with a small white head with nice lacing. Smells of piney and slight floral. Tastes of piney hops, good malt character, slight floral. Beer is light bodied and nicely drinkable with a nice bite. Overall, an above average beer.

"This single hop IPA is brewed using only American Zeus hops, which create an intense piney and resinous character. This brew leans strongly towards the hop character, but is balanced by the malt's sweetness." Brewed in the style of an American IPA. Available in 12 oz. bottles as part of the Latitude 48 Deconstructed Variety pack.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a Samuel Adams Sensory pint glass. Served above 59 degrees Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a frothy foam head of a caramel white color over a maple amber body with light speckled sediment in tow. Retention is very good and lacing is light and patchy. 3.75

(Smell) The Zeus hop generates a piney, resinous aroma with a moderate to intense bitterness atop a milder caramel and pale malt body with a soft sweetness. Potency is medium. 3.5

(Taste) Strikingly bitter up front, with strong hop notes of resinous pine, subdued fruit and earth. Zeus is not quite primed as a show-carrying hop with its generally limited flavor range but is notably the most bitter single hop out of the 5 beers that I have had in this series. The malt profile tries to make up for the deficit in balance with a bready malt profile and a caramel sweetness, but the Zeus hop ultimately wins the balance to the hop side with its striking bitterness. 3.75

(Mouthfeel) The texture is mildly oily, medium resinous and moderately dry. Carbonation is mellow, generating a medium frothiness and a light crispness. Body is medium+ for the style, medium overall. Balance is lightly bitter over sweet. Alcohol presence is mild and there are no notable off flavors. 3.75

(Overall) The grand finale of the single hops incorporated into Latitude 48, as well as the only hop variety I have not previously experienced in an isolated form, turned out to power the driving force of bitterness that comes through strongly in the complete 5-hop IPA recipe. Because of this potential, I find Zeus a better bittering hop than as a flavor or aroma hop as its flavor diversity is quite limited. Despite this, it has the power to add a serious smack of bitterness to any beer without signifigantly compromising or overshadowing a flavor hop like Simcoe or Mosaic. Paired with a complimentary hop of a broader and more defined flavor range, Zeus could make a formidable sidekick hop to round out and beef up just about any IPA on the market. 3.75

A: This poured a clear copper with some off white head.
S: It smelled like citrus zest and resin hops, with a little honey malt.
T: It tasted like resin hops, with some citrus zest and honey malt. It had a clean bitter aftertaste.
M: It was watery with some carbonation. Decent body.
D: This was maybe the best IPA of the pack, with crisp scent and taste and passable body. Not delicious, but really not bad.
