Served cool in a tulip. No idea what their bottle code means but it's late October - can't be too old.

A - 4.25 - Crystal clear red-brown, very pretty. Very nice light tan colored, multi-textured head that dissipates slowly.

S - 4.5 - Really wonderful smell. Definitely smells like pumpkin pie filling, which I love. Southern Tier Pumking shouts crust whereas this one is much more about the spiced filling, but not so heavy on the spices as to crowd out the actual pumpkin and sweetness. And there's still a hint of crust presence to round out the whole-pie experience.

T - 4.25 - Very nice, mild, round, full, slightly buttery, with just a touch of sting at the end and some nice faint fumes of booze and spice wafting up the throat. Actually pumpkiny, with some of that caramel-esque liquid you'd get in a can of candied yams. I don't know if there's a diacetyl thing happening here, but I'm a fan of that from my Samuel Smith's days and I feel there must be something of that nature deliberately going on here. That richness and fullness. Feels great, tastes great, makes me feel great. The aftertaste has something just approaching bitterness but not quite getting there. It stimulates the salivary glands.

M - 4.0 - Medium bodied, with other characteristics described above, with an ending that is slightly dry and sticky at the same time, drier in the front of the tongue and stickier in the back.

O - 4.25 - This is a solid winner. When you've given up on Samuel Adams' main line of beers as too tame, don't sleep on their special lines. There is quality stuff to be had. What I like about this one is the fullness of it. You're not left wanting. The spices are deftly handled and just a pleasure to smell, without being attacky and overdone on the palate. You can taste real pumpkin flavor and dream of mom's pumpkin pie to come in November. I can't wait. I'm basically a fan of anything double/imperial and this takes pumpkin ale where I want it to go.

Sam Adams Double Pumpkin through Randall of vanilla, cinnamon, clove, and roasted barley (draft)
A: pours dark amber body, almost auburn with a small, white head with low retention and lacing.
S: sweet, clove taste; subtle sweet malty smell
T: sweet, alcohol, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and subtle vanilla notes; pretty good tasting beer; some alcohol note aftertaste
M: pretty thin, nothing too impressive
O: ok feel and taste combo, but mouthfeel could have been a little bit better

Tried this at Eli Cannon's in Middletown, CT. Came in a tulip glass with about a half inch of head. Not much lacing if any. Dark cola color. Smells slightly of cinnamon and pumpkin spice. Tastes like nag champa. Its pretty good.

This goes a long with the October theme, of course this makes a great brew when the leaves are falling. A different variety to the Oktoberfests. This one has variations of sweet and bitter. This one seems to a bit drier than the others but still has a sweet finish. One of my favorites from Sam Adams again. This one takes the sweetness and crispness to a whole new level!

An amazing pumpkin ale. Very hard to find near me. It's pretty dark compared to others. Smell has the usual spices. Taste is nice sweet pumpkin goodness. Try it

Reviewed from notes. The appearance had a dark brown/black colored body and left a one finger white foamy head that lasted less than twenty seconds. The body was too dark for any carbonation to be seen rising. Some nice light yet filmy/foamy lacing appeared but settled and slid down the sides of the glass. The smell was superb as not just pumpkin, but allspice, ginger, clove, some slight molasses and cinnamon speckled themselves throughout the entire "pumpkin" aroma. Big wow (at least to me). The taste had all of these typical flavorings and added a slight caramel flavoring, a bit of malt and some extra rich dark fruitiness to it. The palate sat about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. This wasn’t exactly a very drinkable beer, could be close to a palate wrecker with all that was going on with it. It has a sweet dry finish. Overall, though not very drinkable, I really liked this, probably would have been better if I saved this just a tad longer. This is a very good "pumpkin" ale.
