22 oz bottle with a very well designed label. Marked as 8.5% ABV.

This pours clear but dark, red-brown, with a decent bone-colored head. This soon reduces to a ring that leaves minimal lacing.

Aroma: caramel; dark bread, vanilla and surprisingly light spicing.

Flavor: For those of us who often find pumpkin beers over-spiced but who do not object in principle to the addition of such spices, this pumpkin ale hits the proper spicing level: The well chosen and balanced mix of spices is both obvious and light enough to let the underlying ale shine. There's even a nice pumpkin note here that has none of the unfortunate vegetative characteristics found in some other pumpkin ales. Lightly sweet and mildly boozy with hints of fruitcake and vanilla.

Mouthfeel: Slick and smooth, the body is medium-full and well (light-medium) carbonated.

Overall: an outstanding pumpkin beer; certainly one of the best I've tried.

In review is a 2012 vintage.

A - Pours a hazy dark amber color with a caramel lacing ring.

S - Spice, nutmeg, cinnamon, maple, pumpkin, and ginger.

T - Pumpkin, ginger, all spice, cinnamon, some traces of vanilla. Mostly malt and spice with a mild bitterness on the back end to knock down some of the sweetness.

M - Big medium body that's a little watery up top but robust underneath. Carbonation in non-existent. Very viscous.

O - This aged far better than I ever expected.

The drinks more like a wee heavy or a scotch ale rather than a pumpkin. No pumpkin or spice. All heavy malt

Samuel Adams "Fat Jack"
22 oz. brown glass bottle, "ENJOY NOW OR AGE IT TO FURTHER DEVELOP RICH AND UNIQUE FLAVORS"
$6.99 @ Total Wine & More, Cherry Hill, NJ

Not a bad pumpkin beer at all! It's got a lot of fruitiness to it, and a fairly full-flavored caramelish and toasty malt base, but most importantly the spice isn't overdone. The ginger comes through in the nose quite clearly, and the cinnamon in the flavor as well, but beyond that the spices (nutmeg, allspice) blend very nicely with the darkish malt. It's strong, but not too strong, and although it does show at points it's remains mostly contained... it gives just the amount of alcohol that you want to find! Really nicely done in my opinion.

Came in a goblet a deep amber shade with a thinner head atop,a nice looking body to it.Aromas are spiced and warming, nutmeg, allspice, with cinnamon not quite as big.Flavors are heavily spiced with a decent amount of alcohol heat,it's not crazy sweet as there is a bit of a earthy tinge in the finish. Not bad bud it's spiced to the hilt in my opinion.

22 oz bottle poured into a Delerium Tremens snifter.

Pours a clear auburn color with a finger of foam that fades quickly without lacing. Aroma is sweet, pumpkin spice, cinnamon, nutmeg.

Flavor is very strongly spiced. Bitter cinnamon like drying finish. Slightly boozy. Medium bodied, but finishes a bit spicy.

Not bad. A bit overspiced for my liking, but a pretty standard pumpkin offering.

16.6 oz. Bottle

Pours a nice clean/clear golden brown/amber color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice one-finger plus creamy off-white head, which leaves some very nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some nice pumpkin, nutmeg, cinimmon notes. The taste is pretty nice, not really over done, malty, sweet, nice pumpkin, nutmeg, cinimmon. Medium body. Overall a pretty tasty brew.
