The beer pours a medium to dark brown with a large tan head. The aroma is very malty with a ton of toffee and biscuit malt. The flavor is more of the same. The toffee and caramel malt really stands out. There is also a little bit of grass and some lightly toasted malt. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very clean tasting and easy to drink.

Poured into pint glass. This appears a chesnut brown with good clarity. Thin head that dissappeared towanrd the end and did not lace. The aroma has some malt and hints of sweetness. The taste starts off with mild malt with hints of vanilla followed by a good bread finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with smooth carbonation. Overall, this is an easy drinking and flavorful Dunkel Lager. The balance is great and the body is nice. Definitely worth a try.

This beer pours a clear mahogany color. The head is an inch in height, and recedes slowly into nice lacing. The aroma is of dark caramel, toffee, and bready. The taste is similar to the aroma with a bit more of a breadiness to it. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation, and a smooth texture. Overall, this is a nice Munich Dunkel, but there are better versions out there that I would buy before this. It just doesn't have the complexity in the malt character that I look for in a dunkel.

A - A very dark brown very clear in color 1/4 inch of head that turns to an exceptionally nice tan colored lace ring.

S - Smells of nice Dunkel notes of dark fruits, roast, and a touch of bread.

T - Ow wow it has some weird "sharp" character that is reminiscent of hard water of BMC. It's must be the malt since it doesn't really taste of hard water is just "sharp"

Mostly the flavor is toasted malt with mild caramels and a finish of mild roast. It's good.

M - Medium and chewy a good munich style lager.

Despite of the weird sharp malt which resides in the beginning of each sip it's still quite a good beer and worth trying.

Bottle stamped for best by AUG

A= Pours produces a dark brown color with a small off white head on it that holds little retention and lacing on the side of the glass.

S= The smell is fun. A nice mix of sort of "poopy" malt as well as some of the darker roasted malts. Little hop character and it really smells like a loaf of bread with a dark twang.

T= The taste is again some of the wheaty "poopy" malt character which despite the name is actually enjoyable. The roast character is lost in the delicious wheat character. Again little hopping but a solid drinkable wheaty flavor.

M= The mouth is lighter than the color would tell. Lagers are always a trick on the tongue.

O= Loving this. Another solid brew from longshot brews. Tasty flavors with a loager drinkablity. Worth trying again and so far I'm impressed with this mix pack.

12 oz. bottle,

A: Pours a medium copper with a soft white head, nice lace.

S: Sweet malt, toffee, hint of toast.

T: Nice sweet malty flavour, hint of molasses, toffee, and caramel, but well balanced with the hops and a very mild acidity.

M: Medium-bodied, frothy carbonation, smooth, easy to drink.

O: Quite a good Dunkel Lager, a style you don't see very often, but one I love from Germany. Hops Sam Adams makes this a regular.

Pours a deep ruby in color with a short tan head.

Very nice caramel aroma combined with toasted grain.

Rich flavor with lots of hop notes to balance it out. Nice.

Great body is substantial.

Overall I think I underrated this beer the first time I had it. It's one of my favorite Longshots this year.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Mason jar mug.

A- Pours a deep dark ruby tinted brown. Has a tan colored bubbly, foamy head. Leaves a generous lacing on the edges of the glass.

S- The smell is malty with a bit of a cola scent to it. Has a slightly yeasty character to it as well that is slightly hard to detect that adds a very mild sour note to the finish.

T- The start is slightly sweet and malty with another show of cola flavor. Has a bit of a bready doughiness to it as well. Has some malty notes throughout the whole body most of which give off a more bready and sweet grainy flavor. Has a slight bit of cocoa/toffee flavor to it as well that is barely noticeable.

M- Very smooth and full bodied with medium/low carbonation (more on the low side really).

O- A very enjoyable lager for a style that doesn't seem to get enough attention these days. Has some very strong bread and "dough' notes throughout it all rather than more of a sweeter malt profile but being a malt head I think that it's awesome. The mouth feel seemed somewhat off a bit though with how watery it felt overall. A beer I'm glad I got to try.

From notes on 03/30/12:
Best by: August 2012; Poured in a pint glass.

A - Nearly two inches of carbonated off-white head with good retention; Mahogany in color with a slight ruby hue; Clear appearance, though dark; Specks of lacing left behind

S - Good bit of caramel in the nose with light notes of spicy/herbal hops, lemon/citrus fruit, sweetness, and grains

T - Caramel, earthy, bready, and light nutty flavors come forward here; Some sugary sweetness follows toward the end of the taste accompanied by a hint of fruit and metallic flavors with some grassy/leafy hops as well; The metallic finish of the taste isn't the most pleasant, but it seems to disappear as the beer warms, making the aftertaste much more enjoyable

M - Good amount of carbonation; Medium bodied; Pretty smooth going down behind the carbonation; Leaves a light syrupy coat in the mouth

O - At first, the flavor of this beer wasn't really one that stood out, but it seemed to grow on me as I drank more and as the temperature rose. While not the type of beer to bring any complexity, it's pretty smooth and easy to drink, and just a solid beer that seems perfect for these young and lightly cool Spring days.

12oz bottle from Sam Adam's Longshot Brewing Contest 6-pack. Poured into Sam Adams glass.

A- Pours a translucent dark amber/copper color, almost no head, average carbonation.

S- Yeasty maltiness mixed with floral notes. Not too aromatic.

T- Some caramel malts, yeasty, slightly sweet and a little bit bitter.

M- Medium bodied, average carbonation, well-balanced.

O- Another quality beer from the Sam Adams Longshot 6-pack. Not nearly as much taste as the Five Crown Imperial Stout, hence the lower rating but not bad for the style. Could definitely use some more flavor and aroma, but not bad for a home-brew and you can't beat the price on the 6-pack. Next up the Derf's Secret Alt.
