Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams "Perfect Pint" glass.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown with some hints of amber orange. Lots of rising bubbles and a huge five finger off white head with good retention. Leaves a lot of creamy lacing around the glass.
Smell: A sweet aroma that is fairly roasted and nutty. Toasted malts with hints of toffee, burnt caramel, hazelnuts, roast chocolate, coffee, and biscuit. Some brown sugar and hints of cream. Some earthy noble hops add some spice in the background. A pretty sweet smell with a lot of roasted and toasted elements.
Taste: Like the smell, a sweet taste of dark malts and nuts. Toasted and roasted malts with a taste of toffee, caramel, chocolate, hazelnuts, creamy lactose, coffee, oat, and bready biscuit. A fair amount of brown sugar. A little spicy bitterness in the back end from some noble hops. Tastes on the sweet side but not too syrupy. Pretty tasty.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with a moderate level of carbonation. Very creamy. Somewhat slick. Very smooth.
Overall: A pretty nice version of a brown ale. The hazelnuts add a nice kick and the sweetness is kept well in balance.

From the fall variety pack this pours a dark brown color with a fairly thick, foamy, off white head. The smell is a hazelnuts and a little alcoholic. The body is actually fairly light. The taste is a little malty with flavors of cocoa and coffee and a fairly strong hazelnut finish. The finish is very creamy and a little syrupy. This is a pretty good beer from Sam Adam’s. It’s not as good as a few of their beers, but probably better than average. The hazelnut is a nice addition that keeps this from being a fairly pedestrian brown ale, though it does come off as a little artificial.

L: A very dark, somewhat hazy brown with khaki head.
S: Nutty, with loads of brown sugar and cinnamon. A lot of sweet, bready malt.
T: Also nutty and reminiscent of brown sugar. Very bready, with slight bitterness and a finish that is not quite dry, but not too sweet either. Finish is actually quite nutty.
F: Medium body, velvety mouthfeel, medium carbonation.
O: A very nice example of the style. Balanced and tasty, this beer is great on its own but would certainly pair well with food.

A - Dark burgundy brown color with a thin toffee colored lacing ring, very mild carbonation.
S - Hazelnut (go figure, huh?!), dark roasted malt, nutty.
T - Hazelnut dominates along with some chocolate and dark roasted toffee malt with a hint of vanilla.
M - Full medium body, slippery.
O - Not a fan of Brown Ales but the hazelnut adds a really nice dimension to the that makes it enjoyable.

Sampled last night on 4/27/15. Think it was part of one of their 'Seasonal Samplers". Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a 'Sam Adams" pint glass.
This 'American brown ale' style brew pours a deep mahogany in color with a small foamy beige cap. A decent amount of lacing is seen when sipped that sticks to the sides of the glass. The aroma is of roasted malts with a hint of nuts. The taste is...WOW! Fantastic with LOTS of hazelnut right up front! Not even like from the aroma! Besides the hazelnut explosion, the hint of some light spice is also present along with the malts. Really tasty and does down very easy with no bitter or harsh aftertaste at all. Lighter to medium-bodied with perfect carbonation. This is a must try brew. Another tasty brew from Sam Adams.
