Samuel Adams Hazel Brown has a very thick, creamy, beige head and a clear, bubbly, brown appearance, with some lacing left behind. The aroma is of hazelnut, roasted, sweet malt, and coffee. The flavor is of hazelnut coffee, sweet malt, some underneath bitterness, wood, and even a beer taste sneaking in. Mouthfeel is medium, and Samuel Adams Hazel Brown finishes soft, mostly dry, mellow, and easy drinking. Overall, this is very good, and I think it’s worth a try.

from the fall '12 mixed pack. 12oz bottle served in a pint glass.

pours a chestnut tone while yielding a finger of tan head; middling retention and lacing. sweet, nutty aroma smacks of coffee, hazelnut, and caramel with a hint of chocolate. very nice.

flavor , while not quite measuring up to the nose, delivers tasty helpings of the coffee, caramel, and a generous nutty infusion. secondary notes of brown sugar and chocolate. medium bodied mouthfeel with average carbonation.

overall my clear favorite out of this year's fall mixer. very solid beer; probably won't blow you away but it's well worth a try.

Chunky, mashed 'tater head reaches lofts heights for a Sam Adams beer. Clear, chestnut color.

Smells like hazelnut, cocoa and bread crust. Tastewise, hazelnut and toasted malt overcome the the flavor vacuum that is Sam Adams ale yeast. Steely.

Nutella in a bottle it isn't but it's still pretty good. My hazelnut brown beer vote still goes Rogue though.

Appearance - Pours a deep, dark beautiful ruby brown with an off-white, 2 finger head. Retention lasts ridiculously long, resulting in a thick, silky smooth head with incredible stick. By far the most impressive brown I've seen.

Smell - Healthy amount of hazelnut on the nose. Hints of brown sugar.

Taste - Potent hazelnut flavor, backed by a pleasant brown sugar undertone. Hints of light coffee kick in midtaste. Faintly earthy and bitter near the finish, but also just a touch watery (or maybe that's just the flavor making my mouth water?). Simple, but extremely flavorful.

Mouthfeel - Really light in body. Carbonation is silky smooth... almost fluffy.

Overall - Delicious, despite it's limited range. One can't help but to compare it to Rogue's Hazelnut Brown Nectar. One of the best, if not the best, Samuel Adams beers I've had.

A: pours a dark bronze/ brown color just like a good brown ale should.

S: can smell a small amount of toffee/ caramel sweetness. Whats there is good but it is somewhat faint.

T: very sweet caramel and toffee taste, just like the smell but much stronger.

M: little carbonation and pretty thin, fairly standard for a brown ale.

O: very solid brown ale overall one of the best offerings from Sam Adams that I have had.

12 oz.

Pours a reddish brown with an eggshell inch head, slow dissipation.

Smells of lightly toasted grains, caramel, buttered bread and nuts.

Slightly toasty and brown sugar sweet with a whisper of hazelnut and some mildly bitter dry hoppiness. Cocoa in the finish.

Medium body with soft carbonation over the tongue.

A drinkable and enjoyable brown ale with just a hint of hazelnut, this is pretty good and enjoyable. Though its not groundbreaking, I can't think of another brown ale that is really leaps and bounds ahead of it. Certainly worth having.
