sort of a cocoa puff aroma.. sweet, slight hints of honey-chocolate candy. Pretty chestnut skin colour. floats on the tongue like liquid caramel. Sweetness with a hint of dark chocolate bitterness.. Over all, quite an appealing cool weather drink to enjoy outdoors... next to a fire.. with friends... human or Woodsy owl and Smokey bear..

A pretty brown in color (duh) with a lovely foamy head that reduces to a ring in my glass.

Nutty aroma, from the flavoring added. Not made with real nuts?

The flavor is all hazelnut, with a bit of hops. Good.

Creamy body.

Overall a nice nutty ale.

Brown to auburn and clear with a good head that lasted, leaving a nice thick off white cap and sticky lace.

Aroma and flavor are of sweet brown sugar, molasses, caramel, dark fruit, a touch of milk chocolate, and a good nutty presence.

Body is low in carbonation, medium, and sweet/slick on the finish.

It's ok for a fall seasonal, but I'm not super impressed.

Appearance: Pours a translucent, amber-brown body with a reasonable-sized, ivory-hued head.

Smell: Well, hazelnuts, to be precise, with the brown ale backing notes smelling of roast, toasted breadcrusts, and caramel (even a bit of cocoa). Very soft fruitiness. Light tea-like notes delivered by the hops.

Taste: The aforementioned toast, roast, and sweetish caramel (oh, and the cocoa powder) maltiness dialed back just a bit by a bite from the spicy, herb notes imparted by the noble hopping. And, of course, there's the hazelnut flavoring. Standard SA house yeastiness. Semi-dry, nutty, malty finish.

Mouthfeel: On the light side of medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Not too thick, not too thin, with just the right about of suds.

Overall: A tasty brew. Why, it's like a Hazelnut Nectar with the nigh unmistakable SA house yeast character.

Offered as part of the autumn twelve pack, it features a great smell with abundant roasted malt, maple, nut, and toffee notes, and the taste is much of the same, but not quite as strong. It's fairly sweet but doesn't get too far away from itself with some bitterness coming in there to even things out. Mouthfeel is good with medium thickness, moderate carbonation, and just a little stickiness in there. It's not as intricate or tasty as it could have been, but it's a solid addition to the mix pack. The smell is fantastic, and it makes everything else worthwhile.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a perfect pint.

A: Dark brown. Pours a 1 finger, foamy, white head. Settles slowly. Significant beer ring lacing.

S: Light roasted coffee, very prominent dark chocolate, and hazelnut (I assume).

T: Peaty malt, unsweetened dark chocolate.

M: Light and a little bit of a shallow feel; but a little hearty in the front before the fade.

D: Sip and enjoy.

Atmosphere is pretty strong. Dark hue, foamy head, and some persistent albeit light lacing. Nose is a great combination of coffee and dark chocolate.... truly hypnotic. Peaty and malty with some unsweetened dark chocolate notes. Ultimately, a little shallow, but still well done. Overall, this is a pretty good quaff.
