look: 4.5 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4

A - Dark brown color with a thin head that holds to the glass. The look serves the name right.

S - Definitely hazelnut. Not at all overwhelming to me, but I have a weak sense of smell. Still, there's no mistaking that. Again this is exactly what you should get from "Hazel Brown"

T - A very nutty ale with some a subtle caramel that I may not recognize if it weren't advertised. Doesn't have the sweet-taste that I feared from the advertised caramel and toffee. Not disappointing but not super impressed.

M - Light, almost foamy feel. Not bad, not super smooth. Doesn't feel special or particular above average.

O - Very enjoyable, possibly my favorite in the variety pack. If it were sold on it's own I think I'd buy it.

look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.5

A - Pours out a dark brown color with a tan head. Can see some head clinging to the glass which looks nice.

S - Smell is overwhelmingly hazelnut, some faint toffee notes.

T - Taste is extremely nutty, some toffee notes in there. Not particularly complex as it vaguely taste like stale flavored coffee. However I do detect some faint pipe tobacco notes which do make things slightly more interesting.

M - Mouthfeel is adequate.

O - Overall an unwelcome addition to the variety pack. I got to hand it to Sam Adams for always trying new ideas but it also seems like their variety packs are always saddled down with a horrible style or two. I have to admit I don't like hazelnut at all and on second tasting I don't think it is too terrible considering the strength of that flavor but wished they could have included something else a little different, the smoked beer etc.

12oz longneck
A) Pours with a two finger, off-white head that settles to a creamy lacing on top and at the edge of the glass. Clear amber colored body. Thin, semi-sticky lacing on the drink down.
S) Toasted malts. Hazelnut. Caramel.
T) Roasted malts. Hazelnut. Hints of caramel. Great robust malts with just a hint of hops in the finish.
M) Smooth. Medium body. Dry finish.
O) A delicious American brown ale. I'd definitely have another.

dark burgundy, to brown with 2 fingers of tan fluffy head. leaves a thick cobweb of lacing along the sides of the glass.

S: nutty, coffee, roasty, toasty. smells like nutella on freshly toasted bread. really nice, not overly sweet at all.

T: sweet, nutty, slight hop bitterness, roasty, vanilla, coffee flavors, mix with earthy brown ale flavors. I'm a fan.

M: Medium bodied, semi-sweet finish, nuttiness lingers on and carbonation is good.

A: Pours a clear copper with three fingers of off-white head that recedes into a frothy cap with good lacing.

S: Lots of sweet nutty aromas on the nose with notes of caramel, vanilla, pecans, and hazelnuts. Smells great.

T: The flavor is a bit more roasted than the aroma implies, with hearty nut flavors, bread, caramel malts, and hints of hazelnut. The finish has a bitter cocoa flavor to it.

M: Medium body and carbonation, this beer avoids being too watery, though I'd like a little more carbonation.

O: A surprisingly good beer overall. I wasn't expecting much, but quite enjoyed it. The hazelnut is subtle, which is nice. I just wish it were a bit creamier and with the same depth of flavor as aroma.

It pours a gentle dark brown and leaves the same color body. A half inch white foamy head appears and lasts for a good minute. Some foamy rings are left in the lace. The smell has nuts, malts, and light toffee. The taste has the previously mentioned flavors with some light chocolate. The mouthfeel is about a medium with nothing harsh on the tongue. It is very drinkable. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that I won't have a problem drinking the rest. It's a taste beer!.

Poured into a tall pint glass, color is brown with amber edges, head is tan presents very nicely dense and thick, slowly dissipates.

Smell is toasted malts, nuttiness, light chocolate, great mixture of brown and caramel malt flavors.

Taste is just as impressive as the smell, great nuttines and toasted malt presence, light bits of chocolate and caramel - hop presence is subdued but enought to balance.

Mouthfeel, maybe a touch over carbonated for my taste but the lingering sweetness is enough to power through; nice solid presence.

Overall, impressive brew from Sam, good balance and flavor and smell - would love to have this on tap

Poured from the bottle into a pint glass.

A - Pours nicely with two fingers of pretty dense head, lots of lacing that lasts. Dark brown, but not murky.

S - Hmm. Better than expected, lots of hazelnut obviously, and some caramel and chocolate. Not charred chocolate like you might expect in lots of beers like this, but chocolate chocolate.

T - Wow! Pleasantly surprised. The head tastes even more of hazelnut than the beer itself, almost makes you want to swish it around to make more head. But who knows, I like a flavor to have some pop, but maybe too strong or singular for some people's tastes who prefer a lower profile. Also, that same non-burnt chocolate taste.

M - Medium carbonation, very creamy. In a good way.

O - Again, pleasantly surprised. One of the better browns I've had. Some people say the Brewer Patriot has gotten cocky with their seasonals, and if that's true, this may have brought them back from there. And if you love hazelnut, dive right in.

Appearance: Pours with a filtered, brown look. Has a pretty nice creamy head that stays around awhile. Nice.

Smell: Simply, all that hazelnut is right up from with some other malty aromas as well.

Taste/Feel: Follows the nose, unsurprisingly, but with a bit of caramel in there. This is just a tasty beer. It doesn't have as much flavor as I'd like, but it's still appealing. The beer is medium bodied, with medium carbonation as well. A little less carbonation, and I'd like a it a little bit more. Still very refreshing.

This is a good beer that could be a VERY good beer. If every sip tasted like the first one, this would be a standout Sam Adams beer. Instead, it's just a slightly above average offering. A great addition to the Harvest Collection!

Ah, another random niche seasonal from BBC...

Pours a hazelnut brown (if you could believe that) capped with an off-white head that retains wonderfully. Good lacing.

Some soft chocolate, cocoa powder, almond, nothing too aggressive but still interesting to snort at.

Slightly sweet, a touch of maple syrup, nuts, classic brown ale copper notes, very clean... pretty damn tasty for what it is.

Highly drinkable. I sometimes get annoyed with BBC's constant production of seasonal, seemingly half-assed beer releases but this is pretty good.
