Poured into a pint glass.

Look: Pours black, with a bit of brown where the light is able to get through. It poured a one finger head, and leaves moderate lacing. All in all, pretty solid.

Smell: Definitely a molasses smell, a bit of cocoa, and oddly enough, a hint of alcohol. That to me, is rare for a Sam Adams. The smell unfortunately dies off and it's hard to enjoy after about halfway through.

Taste: I'm guessing it's the pecan, but it gives off a bit of a wood taste. There is also a bit of the cocoa bitterness, and a very subtle sweet finish.

Feel: Medium carbonated, as well as the body. Definitely feels like a nice solid porter.

Overall: Well done. I didn't even realize this was in the variety pack and got excited to try their iteration of a porter. Pretty outstanding. Nothing puts it above and beyond any of the others I've had, but it's definitely not bad in any category. If I had had this blind, I wouldn't have guessed Sam Adams made it. They should try making more dark beers. Have the nerve to sell it in six packs man!

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.25 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3.25

Appearance: high carbonation, 1 inch head, hazy, brown in color

Smell: maple, pecan, and cocoa

Taste: follows the nose: maple, pecan, and cocoa

Mouthfeel: sweet, medium body, moderate carbonation

Overall: Not bad, but I have had better offerings from both the maple and pecan perspective. The maple shows up at the end of the beer, but does not shine all the way through. I think having this flavor a bit more present, would make me enjoy this more. Not a bad beer, but certainly disappointing and one I would probably pass over.

P: Deep dark mahogany body with a cappuccino head that dissipates to a thin wake. Spotty lacing grab the sides.

S: Burnt maple syrup, stale coffee, liquid smoke, and roasted candied pecans.

T/M: Taste follows the nose but brings chocolate, loads of vanilla and plums. Taste is similar to kahlua. Silky medium-full body with a kiss if carbonation at the end.

O: Rich and decadent concoction of maple goodness, coffee and chocolate. The nuttiness brings out the natural flavors to compliment the sweetness. Sweetness almost breaches the point of cloying but holds back.

Dark brown with an effervescent and brief head. I can tell by the pour that the body is thin.

They nailed the maple pecan namesake. Nutty and sweet, distinguishable maple syrup.

The taste is watered down and not nearly as robust as this flavor combo should be. Nutty, maple syrup, light roasted malt.

Body is thin with moderate carbonation.

The name sums it up.

Appearance - It is a very dark brown in color, with a bubbly tan head.

Smell - It is a nice roasted dark malt smell with the maple syrup, pecan, and chocolate.

Taste - It is really sweet at the front with the syrup and dried fruits, then the smokey/roasted malts come towards the end. Finishing with the pecan flavor. And the aftertaste definitely reminds me of pecan pie.

Mouthfeel - It is a good-bodied beer, not much carbonation.

Overall - It is a really good beer.
