Poured into a lager glass.
The appearance was a thin pale orange color with an adequate transparency about it. Carbonation could be seen rising at a moderate pace to fill a finger's worth of white foamy head that swiftly died off. Not much lace.
The aroma had a bright zesty to spicy grassy hoppiness bold and up front with some pine and citrus rind flowing on into that.
The flavor was moderately spicy with a balanced zesty to sweet hop contour enabling a fairly bright pine and citrusy aspect about it. Aftertaste was definitely spicy and sweet adding in a little bit of lager-like breadiness.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Hop bite isn't too distracting in this one. Light oily sort of feel rolled over my tongue. Carbonation felt good. ABV felt appropriate. Finish was semi-oily with a little bit of spice and zest.
Overall, as an India pale lager, I'd say this works. I'd have again.

It’s a clear reddish brown lager with a significant foamy white head. The smell is of grapefruit, reminiscent of many California IPAs. The flavors are primarily of grapefruit and pine as advertised on the label with some definite bitterness, but less than most IPAs probably. The aftertaste is surprisingly bready and malty, not typical of an IPA. It is more crisp and lighter than a typical IPA, but in this case I don’t think that is a good thing. The flavors seem surprisingly muted and the hop character is nothing compared to what I’m used to with the SoCal IPAs. Not a bad beer for the price to sit and drink on a hot day, but nothing really special about it either. It is definitely inferior to many of the IPAs that I’m used to.

12 ounce bottle from the 2015 Hopology box.
Look - Orangy copper color. White head, eventually settles. Lots of lacing on the glass.
Smell- Faint hints of citrus, pine and wet bread.
Taste- Who got IPA in my lager? Well, who got lager in my IPA? I like it!
Feel - Light and crisp like a lager.
Overall - Mighty fine styling by Sam Adams!
