Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip glass.

A: Slightly hazy, medium golden color with over one finger of white foam head. Light lacing remains on the glass.

S: Coriander is pronounced; coupled with phenolic-leaning yeast, it imparts a slight chemical quality. An aura of soapy lime citrus lurks around the edges.

T: Begins barely off-dry, with bready yeast, mild coriander, and bright carbonic acidity. Peppery rye is sharp in the middle, aggressively drying, a standout feature of this beer. Lemon and lime citrus peel shows up just in time for the finish, briefly lingering on the palate.

M: Thin to medium viscosity, slightly acidic on the palate, with moderate carbonation.

D/O: Eye-opening rye breaks up what is otherwise a parade of expected features. Wit beers work best when they are treated with delicacy, but this is typical of it's maker's clumsiness with the style. Hopefully others will see in this a needed new direction for the style and make it happen with more favorable results.

Cold bottle poured into a pint glass. The beer pours bright clear gold color with bleached white head of 1 cm that fades to nothing very rapidly after the pour.
Aroma is spicy with coriander and a little grainy malt, and a little bit of rye note buried in the nose.
First sip reveals a light to average body with very fine fizzy carbonation.
Flavor is sweet and malty with grain and a little coriander, rolls to some spicy rye, but the coriander and citrus notes stick around and linger after each sip.
The beer is amazingly easy to drink and not overly complex but enjoyable as I work through the bottle.
Something to session or introduce with and probably better on a hot day, but not a flawed beer, just not super interesting.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date present, but the label is notched at best before August 2013. My third new beer from the Samuel Adams summer sampler pack.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours one finger of white head that dies away quickly. Body is a murky golden orange, unfiltered, with sediment suspended in the glass.

S - Can definitely smell the white sage in this one up front, which is actually very pleasant smelling. Lemon / orange citrus zest, coriander & some additional floral notes, and some black pepper from the rye presence.

T - Crisp & smooth. The tart citrus melds with the herbal spicy sage & rye very nicely, which is actually surprising. Sweet and citric, yet grassy and earthy at the same time. Bubblegum malts make themselves known in the finish.

M - Feel ends dry, with some minor tartness hanging on in the background, along with some herbal earthy notes from the presence of the sage and the rye.

Overall, a surprisingly impressive endeavor from the Samuel Adams crew. Probably not a beer I would be interested in having often, but it is definitely nice to see these guys bring something new and exciting to the table. So far, this has probably been my favorite beer from the summer sampler 12 pack. I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

A: Pours a pale orange hue with a 1 finger white fizzy head. Adequate lacing on the glass as it goes down.

S: Smells of sage, and grapefruit with a hint of rye spice. A little hint of buttery bread in there as well.

T: Light grapefruit taste with a spicy rye finish. The sage helps blend in with the smoothness of the grapefruit. There is a slight earthy rye aftertaste.

M: Thin fizzy mouthfeel. Nothing spectacular there.

O: A decent beer. A good entry into the spiciness of rye malt without being overpowering. Good summer beer.

12oz bottle into pint glass.

A - Murky golden brown with a small white head.

S - Faint aroma of toasted grain, spicy rye, citrus, coriander.

T - A blend of a sweet grain, wheat, orange peel, rye, and citrus zest. Nothing really stands out, although the rye and spice is definitely present. Finishes somewhat earthy with lots of herbal spice.

M - Light-medium body, slightly creamy mouthfeel. Fizzy carbonation.

O - Not bad, not great. The witbier element is too subtle. It's more of a spiced beer than anything else. With that said, it is easy to drink and refreshing on a warm day.

Hazy, orangey gold with a quick to die head. That fast my beer is naked.

Smells like orange zest, sun dried wheat and a "leafiness" that I love. Not sure if the leafiness comes from the hops or the sage but I like it.

Crisp with a Sam Adams amount of rye spice. Mild, herbal lump in back.

Between White Christmas, White Lantern, Blackberry Wit, Imperial Wit and now LWR, Sam is really pumping out the witbeers. This is the best of them all says I.
