LOOK: Hazed yellow with a soapy, well retaining white froth.

SMELL: Wheat, lemon peel, malts and an overall graininess.

TASTE: Lemony and wheaty, mild if any rye flavor. Some chlorophyll induced leafy flavor is strong from the white sage. A touch of bitterness and earthy spice. Bitterness is mild, and there is a lot of citrus to it. Overly citrusy, could be confused with many similar products by macro brewers. Almost has a cleaning product flavor, assuming they taste like they smell.

FEEL: Medium bodied, crisp, creamy malt body and decent feel.

OVERALL: This has too much citrus peel and herbs. BOSTON BEER CO, listen!! Not every beer you make needs citrus peel or coriander!! Not to mention spice rack herbs. Bleh. Over spiced and the flavors just don't work. Pass on this one.

Poured from bottle into a pint glass

Appearance – Pours a hazed orange yellow color with a two finger white head. The head is on the slightly rockier side, fading slowly over time to leave a light level of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smell – The aroma is heavy of citrus (orange and lemon) and yeast as would be expected for a wit. There are the classic notes of banana and spice of coriander, pepper and clove as well as some light rye grainy smell along with a somewhat more potent herbal smell.

Taste – The taste begins rather wit like with a somewhat wheaty and orange citrus taste. Quickly flavors of yeast and spice of a coriander and pepper come to the tongue along with a little bit of a rye flavor creeping onto the scene. The rye gets a bit stronger more toward the end competing with the wheat flavor in intensity. At the finale of the taste a light floral and herbal hop flavor comes into the flavor profile leaving a rather smooth taste to be left on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was rather average in thickness with a carbonation level that was slightly on the higher side. Both the body and the carbonation were rather fitting for the style, complimenting the citrus and rye/wheat flavors well as well as making for a very easy drinker.

Overall – An easy drinking wit with a bit of rye and some other lighter flavors incorporated within. While nothing of extraordinary regard, it was tasty and makes for a nice summer style brew.

Poured into a Samuel Adams perfect pint glass. The beer pours hazy golden with a thick white head and lots of visible rising bubbles. The nose is full of orange, coriander, and sage. I also get some peppery rye, which adds more spiciness to the bright aromas. The taste follows the nose with the wheat and barley adding some nice backbone to this beer. The citrus does meld well with the rye, coriander, and sage. There's that spiciness and earthy quality that balances out the citrus pretty well. There's also a bit of tartness in the flavor. The body is light with moderate carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. The beer drinks pretty well. This is a good beer that hits the right notes and works as a refreshing summer beer.

12 oz. bottle, no bottled on date present, but the label is notched at best before August 2013. My third new beer from the Samuel Adams summer sampler pack.

Poured into a Firestone Walker pint glass.

A - Pours one finger of white head that dies away quickly. Body is a murky golden orange, unfiltered, with sediment suspended in the glass.

S - Can definitely smell the white sage in this one up front, which is actually very pleasant smelling. Lemon / orange citrus zest, coriander & some additional floral notes, and some black pepper from the rye presence.

T - Crisp & smooth. The tart citrus melds with the herbal spicy sage & rye very nicely, which is actually surprising. Sweet and citric, yet grassy and earthy at the same time. Bubblegum malts make themselves known in the finish.

M - Feel ends dry, with some minor tartness hanging on in the background, along with some herbal earthy notes from the presence of the sage and the rye.

Overall, a surprisingly impressive endeavor from the Samuel Adams crew. Probably not a beer I would be interested in having often, but it is definitely nice to see these guys bring something new and exciting to the table. So far, this has probably been my favorite beer from the summer sampler 12 pack. I would definitely recommend giving it a try.

Hazy, orangey gold with a quick to die head. That fast my beer is naked.

Smells like orange zest, sun dried wheat and a "leafiness" that I love. Not sure if the leafiness comes from the hops or the sage but I like it.

Crisp with a Sam Adams amount of rye spice. Mild, herbal lump in back.

Between White Christmas, White Lantern, Blackberry Wit, Imperial Wit and now LWR, Sam is really pumping out the witbeers. This is the best of them all says I.
