Surprised to see this. A bit metallic, lightly hopped with a bittersweet non-roasty finish. Decent session beer.

Had this on tap this past weekend at the Cloverleaf in Caldwell - not having this before or a Guinness in quite a long time. The nitro pour made me want to give this a go and even the bartenders knew how to serve this, as was evidenced by the near-perfect appearance of this once the let it settle down. This was so smooth and enjoyable and easily the best beer from Sam Adams that I've had in quite a long time!

I can't believe that I'm about to type this, but the appearance of this beer was better than Guinness! A nice, dark bottom with the cascades down the side was perfectly topped off by a tan, creamy top that simply just did not quit; not even after letting this sit for well over five minutes. The aroma wasn't that strong to this but there was some milk chocolate and a nice sense of cream, which came out more once I took a sip of this. Some oats too, along with a nicely smooth mouthfeel and a coat of lacing down the side of the pint glass. No rings here - just a coat that ran down the back half as if someone painted it on with a brush.

There's just a hint of roasting and vanilla bean here and that kept this from feeling too light. This was not dry or burnt and couldn't even feel the alcohol in this. I've tended to like Irish Dry Stouts because how great they are as session beers but this was a notch or two above the best one of those that I've. A must-try for anyone looking for a dark beer that can hold its own and is tasty enough for a second serving. This was an offering that I will have again before it kicks out!

On nitro at The Keg Room, NYC.

Poured a deep brown hue with a two finger frothy off white head. There was very good retention and lacing.

The smell featured a light roasted malt with a touch of lactose sweetness.

The taste was a pleasant balance of milk sugar and roasted barley.

The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy.

Overall a very tasty nitro infused stout. Well made.

Pours a dark blackish brown with a cascading brown nitro effect. Chunky head forms and laces the glass nicely. The aroma if dark, roasted and charcoal like with some malt sweetness kicking in at the end.

In the taste, roasted malt coming off nice and chocolately. Big on the irish dry stout black patent malt character and a bit stronger in flavor than other nitro stouts available in this area. Agreeable flavor of malt and cocoa with faint hop bitterness. Thick, velvety smooth body.

Overall, this is a win, very enjoyable and pretty solid as an English/ Irish Dry Stout. Excellent drinkability and seemingly much better than many other examples of the style. Good beer.
