A- Clear amber/copper color in glass. Constant bubbles, creamy head, awesome lacing.
S- Its got an earthy, bready thing going on with caramel, orange, and grapefruit as accents.
T- A mix of bready malts, caramel, earthy hops, orange, under-ripened grapefruit, and pine. As it warms, the grapefruit becomes really pronounced.
M- Medium light body. Good carbonation. Not overly drying or very mouth coating.
O- 3.5

Not sure why the ratings are so low on this. Probably because Sam Adams isn't cool to beer snobs anymore, which I don't get. Anyway, to me this is just as good as mother higher rated IPAs like Green Flash or Titan.

Pours into a nonic a clear medium golden with a sticky one finger white that settles very slowly leaving two broken rings of lace behind as it settles .Mild leafy and citric hops along with some sugary sweetness, both are light.A decent shot of citric hops upfront on the palate along with a caramel biscuit base underneath, the hops are much more fruity than bitter wich surprised me a little. Not bad,it's not something to go spend alot of money on but would be good as a "starter" IPA for somebody.

First off, this is NOT a West Coast IPA. It is not very bitter, it is too low in alcohol, and the malt balance is more like an English IPA.
That said, it is still enjoyable. Grapefruit and pine hoppiness, with balanced malts. Strong fruitiness overall that is not consistent with American hops. Dry and spicy on the finish, but only low to moderate bitterness.

For the amount of hop varieties they used to create their interpretation of a West Coast IPA, nothing stood out. Sam Adams does one thing consistent - no matter what style of beer they produce - it all shares a similar taste profile. Maybe I'm crazy. I've yet to drink any of their offerings and be blown away. If you're an IPA enthusiast who's been around the block more than once, don't expect to get anything remotely close out of this that compares to some of your favorites. Beyond mediocre and, quite comical, given Koch's cavalier attitude towards aggressively hopped beers. Anyone can do it? I disagree. I'd drink this over BMC, but that's not really saying anything, is it?

this is pretty much the worst IPA i've ever had. tons of off flavors, and overall completely bland and characterless. Overly malty, with flavors of squash, peanut butter, balsamic reduction, and sponge. Little to no head retention, and no lacing. I would not waste any more money or time on this Samuel Adams product.

Poured from bottle to glass.
L - Two fingers of fluffy white head. Golden in color. Nice. Leaves good lacing down the glass
S - Light citrus, perhaps a bit of malt. Seems a bit light on hops for an IPA.
T - Pleasant bitterness. Dry. Citrus and perhaps a bit of pine in the hop flavor. Taste closely mirrors the aroma - in other words hops could be heavier but pleasant. Not very sweet which is a plus in my book.
F - Medium body, nice carbonation.
O - Solid IPA but not outstanding. Easy to find. I believe many ratings would be higher if tasted blind (i.e. reviewers didn't know it was a Sam Adams product).

Rocky head from the off white head forming thick, large bodied copper hue going on. Aroma has citric notes, big fruity hop notes, lemon, lime, and alpha acids come through each sniff. Flavor includes big fruitiness, caramelized malts, bitterness rolling through with hints of tropical fruits, dank resinous hops make their presence known but the actual beer doesn't do the style justice. Mouthfeel has a resinous hop oil slickness even carbonation not much going on other than the breadiness that finishes with most Sam Adams beers. Overall I can't wait to try more Sam Adams IPAs this happens to be their first shot at a West Coast style IPA it's getting closer.

I have to admit that I really enjoyed this IPA
I've tasted so many because I love them. Anyone can throw hops into a beer but to balance the crispness, fresh taste, that orange pine grapefruit spirit into s beer is what separates any IPA from a good one
Hats off to Samuel Adams for this one

Nice light IPA. Great for a hot day when you are not looking for something with a lot of power and bite. A tiny bit pedestrian, but I would drink it again.

Not bad at all, actually. Has a very Sam Adams character to it; certainly isn't as much of a big "west coast" IPA as advertised but for what it is I think it is downright tasty. This brewery really does have their own style and taste and I really appreciate that about SA. Try it out.

IPA made for the masses. No citrus, no grapfruit, light hops, pretty much PBR with a slight hoppy flavor added in to satisfy the lame name. Should be called Whitebread IPA.

Deep gold with thick, tight white foam. Smells like centennial hops with lemon notes. Green grass and grapefruit plus lemon zest. Medium lite mouthfeel. Resinous hoppy tongue coating. West coast, but not hop overpowering. Nice.

Poured into a perfect pint. Bottle.
3.25 A: Clear light orange color. Two fingers of frothy white head. Retention is a touch below average and a short ring of lacing is left.
3.0 S: This wasn't what I was expecting. It's surprisingly bready with a cracker component to it. When I think of "west coast IPA" I think more clean malt profile. Hops are a hodgepodge of herbal, grapefruity citrus, and grassy. There's hints of some musky cat aroma in there as well.
3.25 T: Taste is pretty similar to nose. Mild bitterness. Musty feline flavors with a hefty herbal component. Grassy and citrusy hops underneath. The taste is more cracker and less bready than the nose though.
3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Light creaminess and super smooth.
3.25 D: It's not a bad beer, but it's not what I was expecting. If I went in thinking this was a pale ale instead of a "west coast IPA" I probably would have been more satisfied. Either way, it drinks easy.

I'm not sure why I even picked this up but I wish I hadnt. I might have just picked up some miller light and had enjoyed it possible more than this. The only way this resembles an ipa is that it says ipa on the bottle.

On tap at Swinging Chicken Saloon.
Pours a clear amber, left a half inch white head that dissipated slowly, left moderate lacing on the glass.
Piney, sweet hops take the start, a nice toasted malt barley takes the finish.
Not bad at all.
Medium-light bodied, light carbonation, crisp finish.

I can't find any complexity or interesting flavors in this beer. I want to like it because, well--because it's Sam adams. For years--during the dark ages when I was young--the only tasty beer on tap at most places. But now--not so much. I can think of 100 better IPAs by 100 brewers that aren't Sam Adams.

12oz. Bottle
Enjoy By: Jul 2015
Poured into a pint glass a basically clean/clear golden yellow color, nice carbonatino, with a nice one-finger fizzy white head, with some nice sticky lacing left behind. The nose is slightly hoppy with some malt notes, very slight citrus. The taste is mostly malty, but with a very close maltyness, very slight citrus. Medium body. dry/bitter finish. Overall a tasty brew, but probably will not buy again.

Serving Type: 355 mL Bottle
A- Slightly hazy Light Amber colour with an off white 2 finger head that has pretty good retention. Lots of lacing on the glass.
S- Bready malt and Citrus(grapefruit).
T-Nice malt that gives way to refreshing citrus but slightly sweeter than the citrus on the aroma. Almost orange/tangerine. Nice hop bite on the finish.
M- Low to Medium Carbonation and a very smooth body.
O- Thankfully Samuel Adam's Rebel IPA finally became available in New Brunswick and I have to say that this is easily to best Samuel Adam's beer I've had to date. It simply has all of the characteristics you would want in an IPA. Nice malt and citrus flavours with an adequate hop bite. To Whomever is responsible for bringing this beer to New Brunswick: Thank you.

Smell: Juicy hops.
Taste: Pretty subdued bitterness, but still plenty of fruity and citric hop taste comes through. Moderately sweet malt backbone.
Mouthfeel: Moderate thickness, well carbonated.
Overall: Pretty good. You can tell this was designed to be an accessible IPA - not too bitter, fruity hops, sweet malts. It definitely succeeds in that, and is a great choice for someone just getting into IPAs. If you are already initiated and crave the bitterness of an West Coast IPA, then this might let you down a bit.
