Fantastic aroma of Citra jumps out the glass. Citra in your face. Nice hop blast up front and a very well balanced malt backbone finishes the beer. Easy to drink a few pints at a time. Great beer.

On tap at the tap room.
Clear, copper hue. Lazy skim of cream head, probably could have raised more with a hard pour. Scattered lacing.
Smells like apricot, mango, tangelo, something malty or spicy in the background.
Citrus and malt are fighting, in a good way. Subtle pine, dankness, pepper notes surface. Sweetness on the back end.
Light bodied, relatively low carbonation, no alcohol.
Been drinking this for years, I buy it every time I go to Florence, yet I rate it much lower than IPA’s that were one and done. Citocity, I can’t quit you.

22oz brown bottle, sample from the brewery. Label states that there is no grapefruit added.

Meek psst when the cap popped though after a sturdy pour it yielded a generous froth. A bit darker than anticipated though its clear. Nose fills quickly with thoughts of toast biscuits with a bitter grapefruit marmalade. Smooth with a gentle carbonation, reminds me of cask in a way. Soft but firm hold of hop bitterness that shows lot of grapefruit rind & pith. Good malt body with a sturdy enough foundation to hold up against the hop character. Gulp after gulp this one grows on be quick. One of the more interesting IPAs I've had in 2015 which is saying a lot ... so many IPAs out there.

Update, since not many reviews, a second tasting at 521 BBQ. I'll just simply say I am doubling down on my review. Very good beer.

This is a hopheads gotta try. From tap at Empire in Fort Mill, SC., was a new one for me. Crisp, clean and bold, citrus flavor from aroma to finish. Nice orange red hue, almost 2 on the foam which lingered throughout. Citrus aroma is huge. Sweet up front on the tongue, but mellows and coats the entire mouth with a minor hop bite. Interestingly and different, the sweetness stays to the front. Strong hops together well throughout, but the citrus flavor is dominant. Worth a 6 pack if you must and if you like stronger hops. Good rating for this beer.

Incredible beer. On tap at 1031, a restaurant in Florence from a fresh keg. Pours orange-copper with a generous head. The beer is crystal clear, and has a distinct aroma of citrus and fresh cut grass. Taste is unbelievable. This stuff is liquid gold. Maybe the best IPA I've ever had.

Growler from local Whole Foods (based on recommendation). I've had a couple other beers from this brewery. This is the best I've tried. Excellent beer!

From a bottle. Poured, a clear golden orange into a spieglau IPA glass. There's about 1/2 an inch of head. The smell is all tropical: citrus, passionfruit, mango. The taste is heavy on the citrus/grapefruit up front, with a solid, cracker-like malt backbone that appears after about 3 seconds. Finishes dry and clean. I could drink this all day. A perfect IPA.

Just about the best IPA in SC right now. The name tells you exactly what to expect, and the beer delivers. A pour from a fresh keg delivers one of the most expansive bouquets of any IPA I've experienced. Strong malt backing for a relatively balanced bitterness, but man oh man the hop *flavor* is so juicy and deep.

Note: Bottled 06/30/2015

A: Pours a lightly hazy medium copper in color with moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising from the bottom of the glass and moderate honey orange + ruby red highlights. The beer has a finger tall sudsy foamy beige head that reduces to a medium to large sized patch of thin film surrounded by a medium to thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: There is a moderate aromas of tropical/mango/passionfruit/papaya hops over the top of light to moderate aromas of caramel malts.

T: Upfront there is a moderate flavor of caramel malts with light to moderate amounts of sweetness. That is followed by slightly stronger than moderate flavors of tropical/mango, tropical/passionfruit, and tropical/papaya hops which impart a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades pretty quickly.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation.

O: Overall this beer is pretty well balanced between the malt sweetness and the hop bitterness while still having really nice tropical hop aromas + flavors. Easy to drink and enjoyable. Glad I took a chance on the relatively local brewery (to the hotel here is SC) and grabbed one, would grab another if I come back this way.

Look - One of the darkest IPA's I've ever seen... A golden-brown appearance with some white suds on top for good measure.

Smell - Strong, strong, strong fruit notes; more specifically the rinds of said fruit (or not quite ripe) Lots of lemon rind, Grapefruit rind, orange rind, and pineapple rind all present along with slight hop and malt.

Taste - Super fruity, dank, juicy. More on the malt-y side as opposed to hop forward, the hops are present. Very drinkable.

Feel - Very heavy body relative to the IPA style. Not very carbonated, so that just adds to heavy feel of the beer. That being said, this was very smooth and drinkable.

Overall - Fun IPA, not very traditional. If you like "juicy" IPA's or just want to experience one of the most fruit heavy IPA around then give this a try.
