A 750ml bottle with a best before date of 18th June 2024. Poured into a 3 Fonteinen stemmed glass.

Appearance: A lightly hazy copper amber colour with a one finger white head that had pretty good retention and left lots of nice lacing.

Aroma: Sour, tart, yuzu, citrus peel, vinegar, oak, lightly herbal, funky.

Taste: Sour, tart, funky, yuzu, lemon tea, lemonade, floral, herbal, vinegar, oak, with a hint of mint.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

Overall: Nice and refreshing with a good balance of funk, sour and yuzu citrus.

Bottle from West Lakeview Liquors. Served in an 18th Street snifter. Best before June 18th, 2024.

A - White foam sizzles to very little. Partial collar, no lace, transparent golden body.

S - Smells like yuzu, with light salt note. The base lambic has a bit of cheesecloth to it and a bit more malt character and vanilla. Not overly sour. More funky, with notes of mushroom and musky horse blanket in there. This flavor combo always reminds me a little of Mountain Dew.

T - This reminds me of the first batch of Spontan- beers in the base lambic character; it's very funky, cheese cloth, earthy, mushroom, and fairly low on lactic or acetic sourness. Lightly tart, with citrus and lambic acidity mingling. Again, plenty of yuzu and a touch of salinity.

M - Super dry, mildly tart and acidic. Medium body, with a somewhat oily texture to it. Pleasant, lower carbonation. Hey, this one isn't 7.7%; not that I ever noticed alcohol in any of these beers.

D - If you wanted a Spontanyuzu, this is it. If you don't dig Mikkeller Spontan- variants you probably won't dig this. I enjoyed it a fair bit and I imagine it would pair really well with spicy Asian food.

This beer pours a nice golden color with a nice white head that disappears after a bit. Smell is of artificial lemon-lime soda. Honestly not really a great scent. Taste is of lemon-lime soda mixed with a goze. Taste like a tart, yet salty lemon-lime soda but somehow it works!!! i want to dislike this guy but I just can't! No hop character, and a nice carbonated mouthfeel. Overall, not bad! The saltiness and lemon-lime flavor works great on a summer night!

just as good as any of the spontan series, this is a lighter alcohol and grain heavy beer, with yuzu fruit. its so tart and funky, almost like tangerine sour candy. yuzu is in vogue right now, but this is the best use of it that i have encountered by a mile. spendy bottle at 17 bucks or so, but well worth it. surprisingly orange in color, it has a much lighter color and feel to it than it shows. sour citrus rind, really grapefuity as i know it, even limey for a second in the smell. the line between bacterial sour and yuzu tart is smudged pretty hard here, its seamless, and while the beer is quite puckery, its almost impossible to tell where the lacto thing stops and where the fruit thing begins, its great. lots of funk on it and an effervescent carbonation makes this absolutely sing on the palate. the fruit is so juicy in this, and its sour but approachable. i can see this as an excellent food beer (thats what its for) with all kinds of grub. from the greasiest lousiest oozing with processed cheese to the most elegant sushi dinner, i think its a success culinarily. overall like i always say, anything mikkeller touches is gold. this is no exception, but my expectations for the other beers in this series are somewhat muted in comparison, this is the least weird of them all, but its amazing. so much yuzu, darn near perfect wild ale here.
