22 ounce bottle into a flute glass. Had 3/24/17.
Looks like pink champagne, with a one inch head and some foamy lacing. Very active carbonation. Smell is funky to start. Grapes, yeast, hibiscus, light cherries, a little bready, light black pepper in the head. A faint medicinal aroma, kind of buried underneath. The taste is generally floral. Grapes, yeast, light malt- if it was even used, a hibiscus aftertaste. Semi-dry, refreshing, smooth, well carbonated, a solid light body.
Not sure I’ve done a great job describing this one, but it’s very good and really enjoyable. The grapes, of course, are the star, delicate but developed flavors, a firm enough body to remind you it is a beer.

Drank on draft @ Cultivate on 8/16/22.
Beautiful, semi-opaque red/pink appearance.
Almost no white head; almost no lace.
White grape, fresh flowers & mild clove notes in the nose.
Medium mouthfeel.
Champagne yeast, white grape & faint flower flavors.
Dry and pleasant; the booze is well hidden. Good!

Interesting. Enjoyable. And stronger than I expected... until I read the label; then I understood. But, I also don't drink enough of this style (6 and counting) to make a respectable relative evaluation. (Although I should work on more tastings.) Anyhow, I'm glad Forbidden Root re-released Rose after its debut almost five years ago.
While I much like its Looks, Sparkling Rose's Smells and Tastes and Feel rate slightly lower in my book. But because it is well-integrated, its ABV is well-concealed. This dry a finish always makes me wonder if it it will work well with food. The best way to find out is to revisit Forbidden Root, a gastropub only a mile from my home.
And I will visit once enough people get vaccinated so Covid is under control. Until then, very creative culinary efforts like Forbidden Root will be hamstrung by those who would rather risk killing themselves than get a proven vaccination. I am reminded of this and speak up now because Forbidden Root's brewpub in Columbus Ohio should be taking orders and minimizing costs in its first year. But, it's not able to.
Forbidden Root and thousands of other micros lose money because of a very unnecessary disruption caused by confused people who won't take a jab that we all need and must have. The taproom/brewpub strategy is fundamental to the craft movement's growth. Those who turn taprooms into spreading grounds of a pandemic are enemies of the craft industry. Peace and prosperity through vaccinations. End of sermon.

Had on tap. Fun take on the style. Really like the lighter and juicy take on a dryer beer. Grapes and especially hibiscus brought in a nice, delicate, yet transformative touch to the overall taste. Aroma was perfumey and bubbly. Extra points for doing something way out there in a not so common style, bravo!

Tasted in a snifter from draft at Forbidden Root on August 9, 2017. Tasted in a champagne flute from a 32 oz crowler on January 12, 2019. A well made sparkling style.

i really enjoyed this one, a little something different here, from the bottle, cool label, not as bubbly as anticipated, but a pretty pale pink color with some deep golden hues and only a little bit of head after the initial pour, sort of settles like a champagne might. a neat mix of extra ingredients in this saison/belgian pale hybrid, with white grapes and hibiscus. the grapes are sweet, fortified wine tasting in this beer, and the hibiscus is thankfully fairly relaxed, not perfumy at all, but distinct and obvious in the floral botanical sense. there are strong wine notes to this with the grapes and especially with the yeast, which to me has a little tang to it, maybe intentionally a little tannic, with a belgian fruitiness thats great with the hibiscus too. i wish for even more carbonation, even though its a lot more lively than it looks in the glass, but i like the drier finish after the sweet grape middle this has. the grain is pretty mild, almost missing as a flavor influencer here, but there is some body. fun beer, i know these guys do a lot of creative flavored ales, and while this is a step away from outstanding, its really tasty and quite distinctive. shocked to learn its this strong, doesnt show it hardly at all. well done.
edit: not quite as compelling from the tap as it is from the bottle, a little flat for what its supposed to be, and just not as delicate as i remember from the bottle. they must rely on some bottle conditioning to finish it off...
