Notes: A New England IPA. Aromas of bright oak, green citrus, & spruce. Wood intensifies as it warms. A medley of white grapefruit, pine, and vanilla. The complexity keeps you coming back to try and make sense of it. Hopped with Styrian General, Simcoe, and Crystal.

Pours a light orangish yellow color. Completely opaque and almost glowing in appearance. Thin white head dissipates steadily leaving a thin layer of partial foam and some soapy lacing. Looks in line with other NE styled IPAs.

Smell has notes of pineapple, melon, peach, tangerine, and some pina colada like notes.

Taste follows the nose with some pineapple, melon, peach, tangerine and Pina colada notes up front. Light vanilla and oak notes are noted throughout providing some complexity to the beer.

Feel is smooth and viscous. Medium bodied. Moderately carbonated.

Overall this is a really nice and very unique take on the NE style IPA. Im not a fan of oak aged IPAs but this is well done.

Had a couple of these over the course of the day, probably my favorite beer at the CBS picnic.
Murky orange with frothy foam billowing to the rim of the glass and leaving ample lace behind.
Aroma was yeasty and tropical with coconut and ripe fruit aromas.
As it warmed the coconut and oaky vanilla flavors intensified, against the mellow fruity hops.
Smooth and supple feel, a touch light bodied with low carbonation. Very quenching and drinkable.

Released 10/3/17; drank 10/13/17 @ the Yarchives.

Opaque orange/yellow appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE bright white head; a thick curtain of lace.

Dandelion, lemon & faint oak notes in the nose.

Soft, medium mouthfeel.

Apple, dandelion & lemon flavors up front; dry oak & mild strawberry notes on the finish. Unique, & not really a "NE IPA" in my eyes.

Extremely interesting & worth a quaff, but not an unqualified masterpiece.

16 ounce can into a tulip snifter. Had 10/30/17.

Pours a cloudy yellow, with a two inch creamy head with good retention and a good amount of foamy lacing.

Aromas of tropical hops- pineapple, mango, yeast, a little funk, oak- more as it warms, pine.

The taste is more pine than the nose and generally fruity, although you can still pick out some pineapple, lemon and lime. It seems like the stronger oak presence in the taste kind of muddled the hop flavors a bit. Also light malt and yeast.

Smooth, a lighter feel to the body than expected, well carbonated.

This is good. The oak is a positive overall, but the flavor could use a little more intensity to stand up to it. Worth a try.

A: Vibrant dark yellow with white head
S: Sweet pineapple, Belgian spice, apple, oak, white pepper, caramelized banana, tangerine, floral
T: Toasted coconut, oak, apple, sweet malt, light bitterness, mango, white pepper, tangerine
M: Fluffy, light
O: Very unique and unlike other ipas in the haze craze due to the oak aging. Could benefit from a little more bitterness

Tasted in a Spiegelau IPA glass from a one pint can on October 28, 2017. The best oak-aged IPA I have ever tried. The barrel notes are very subtle and do not detract from the base IPA. Everything comes together for a nice looking easy drinking beer. Highly recommended.

Enjoyed on draft, reviewed from growler the next day.

I like this idea of an oak-aged NEIPA, and it's carried off beautifully here by Forbidden Root. I don't know the duration of ageing, nor have I tasted the base beer, but my impression is that the oak gives it a softer edge, balancing out the bitter hops character and bringing a bit of vanilla. The oak also morphs a bit of the bitterness into more of a tart flavor that is not readily apparent but shows itself on occasion.

11/17/18 (Chicago): 2 oz pour into FOBAB taster glass. Light yellow pour, thin white head. Light sweet fruity aroma, pineapple, floral notes as well. Sour bitter taste, wasn't expecting based on the aroma. Mouth feel thin, nominal carbonation. Overall OK pour.

This was my first experience with forbidden root and I am unfortunately disappointed. On draft at First Draft. The extra flavoring is a little gimmicky. Grapefruit is far too prevalent. Will not order again.
