this is becoming one of their more popular beers now it seems, and i can see why, its nicely executed, more drinkable than most because it is objectively less sweet than the standard these days, more of a natural dark chocolate than a milk chocolate complexion, roasty and bitter rather than candy sweet, i think the lactose is well enough restrained too, it creams this up and balances the roast but doesnt make it diabetic, so pretty good proportions here overall. still imperfect though, not much head from the tap, a little more body than it needs, and some molasses type linger on it, both bitter and sweet a bit, not as clean to finish as it could be, and less drinkable as a result. the chocolate part itself is nice though, smooth and natural, earthy and compatible with the coffee note the dark malt brings, enhanced by the lactose just enough, hints of raisin and toffee in the middle of this too, concentrated grain richness, nice wintery cozy flavors overall. solid brew, glad i finally got to have a pint, it would be awesome on nitro!

I received this beer and asked to review it. The beer is 50 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour produced a massive two-fingered tan head with excellent retention. The head dissipated slowly, leaving no lacing on the glass. The color of the beer is SRM 26, dark brown, nearly black. The beer is opaque. Thus far, the appearance of the head is typical of this style.
Initial aromas are char, dark chocolate, smoke, and fire. Nosing further in the glass, I smell the milk, cereal, coffee, and caramel. Lastly, I sense Maillard, toffee, bread, toasted bread crust, floral esters, and herbal.
I taste cereal, milk, char, dark chocolate, smoke, caramel, floral esters, coffee, Maillard, and toasted bread crust.
The mouthfeel of the beer is thin, slick, and coating.
The body of the beer is medium, low carbonation, and fuller finish.
Overall, this beer is intriguing. The milk stout style in beer does not hold up well. The body of the beer is too thin for my liking. I enjoyed the flavors of the beer except for the bock characters. I want more substance to the beer and better balance. Interesting beer none the less and I probably will not revisit this one.

August 18th 3018 on the label.
Pours almost pitch black, could be a very dark brown..opaque. Nice head of tan foam, plenty of lacing.
It does smell milky, has the chocolate, hint of vanilla.
Milk chocolate flavours, vanilla, semisweet overall. Tasty.
Mostly medium bodied but does thin out in the finish.
Solid Milk Stout.

This is a pretty robust stout for 6%. I usually go for the higher ABV on the stouts for flavor, but this one is pretty tasty. Zero sunlight goes through it and it's pretty thick in the feel for a 'regular' stout. Lots of flavor - cocoa nibs, coffee, butterscotch, malt and oats. I would get this one again.

Sweet and smooth, dark and black, impervious to light. Beige brown frothy head. Aroma of roast grains, chocolate and some light coffee scent. Taste is bittersweet chocolate, with a little burnt toast thrown in for good measure. Overall nice mouth feel.

On tap at the brewery tonight with Ditmier... Pours a pretty standard
black with a short lived dark tan head... spotty lacing. Chocolate
essence is nicely integrated by a good residual sweetness, not sure if
the sugars is lactose or not (Eric thought so).. Tasty and well done..
Light body still with a nice slickness on the palate... Probably the
best beer I have had from Boise Brewing.
