Pours a hazy copper color with a tight, off-white head that leaves little chunks of lacing.
Smells of bright, citrus hops and some toasted malt.
Tastes of the bright hops layered over a solid malt base. Hops lead off with notes of citrus and pine. This gives way to some caramel and toasted bread. Finishes with a bit of hop bitterness.
Mouthfeel is medium with a smooth amount of carbonation.
Overall, this is a solid ipa.

My (usually) local, in-person trader, tone77, dropped this off for me in furtherance of The CANQuest (tm). He flew his snowbird self south for the winter, but I will still raise a toast to him. Prosit!
From the CAN: "Kraken is a true India Pale Ale. Its light malt flavor is overwhelmed by a tsunami of citrusy bitterness, combined with a strong hop nose and finish."; "'Watch yourself or you will be consumed by the Kraken.'"; "We Do It Dif'rent"; "Drink Local!"
Having just finished a retro cross-country trip on U.S. 50 from these guys & thinking about their doing it dif'rent, I am going to jam econo for this one! I was just working on a Cthulhu adult coloring book last week & his resemblance to The Kraken is striking. My first ship, USS Fulton (AS-11) was a real beast of the east (coast) & we rarely got underway, but I kept a lookout for The Kraken on my first Atlantic crossing in early-1985. I was reading Lovecraft & Stephen King & listening to The Minutemen on a cassette tape and dreaming of California.
Enough! Let's get this mother going with a Crack! which released a spray across my fingertips & showed some foaming through the vent. Oooh, a squirter! I gave it a gentle Glug as I was reluctant to rile it up, but then a swirl to make sure that the beast was alive. I roused a finger of dense, tawny head that hung around just long enough to create a sense of unease. Color was Deep Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity & I should have been reassured that nothing lurked beneath the surface, but I wasn't. Nose had a bright, clean pine-like mintiness & my mouth began to water. Mouthfeel was medium. It was a trick! The beast was hiding in the liquid and attached its suction cups inside my throat, causing me to choke. Ack! Another quick draught out of the glass washed it down & into my belly, where it really started wreaking havoc. The taste was full-on pine hops and left me with a cool, clean taste in my mouth, never mind my stomach. Finish was dry & after my third OCBC beer of the day, I finally felt like we were getting somewhere. This was a solid AIPA and it being in a CAN that could be taken to the beach makes it my pick.

Poured from a 12 oz. ca. Has a pretty, cloudy orange/beige color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of citrus, some floral hops. Taste is a bit unusual. Tropical fruits, malts, light bitterness, but a medicinal flavor that grows stronger in the aftertaste. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a mediocre beer.

Poured from a 64oz growler into a pub glass.
Look: has an amber appearance with low carbonation; I got about a 2 fingered head that was slightly off white. A little dark for an IPA in my experience.
Smell: distant smell of floral hops but I was unable to pull anything else, no matter how hard I tried.
Taste: at first, the taste is pretty good; slight malt backbone with a hearty hop flavor with medium bitterness. But there's something in the aftertaste that was... off. Had kind of a Nyquil taste to it... and it got a little worse over the session. Killed the overall mood.
Mouthfeel: this was actually quite nice, it was creamy for an IPA and had good malt/hop balance.
Whatever's causing that aftertaste, kill it. It can be an above average beer without it.
