12 oz. sample, shared with others at the Maproom.

Poured the typical golden, almost pastel yellow. High clarity, good head retention. Some lacing in the glass, typical Belgian looks.

Aroma was sweet, mild fruit candy...lemon, orange, or peach.

Tasted fairly sweet with a very subdued spicy element. Coriander would be my guess, but that would just be following the formula. Round, sweet mouthfeel, I was hoping for a thicker wheatiness. Nice dry finish. Alcohol is there, but fairly well hidden.

My glass disappeared quickly, and was supplemented by a friend's unattended glass...

The label says "Brewmaster's Collection Special Reserve" Belgian Imperial White Ale. Purchased this 750 ML bottle at the San Luis Obispo BevMo the cost was $9.99.

This corked with a rubber cork and also caged.

In the glass this is a furiously head forming lightly cloudy pale yellow colored ale. The head formation is nothing short of legendary, very tall snow white head that falls fairly quickly. Looks great and there is no reason to pour this with vigor this makes a tall head no matter what.

The smell sweet and spicy with a clear scent of coriander along with a strong banana smell like a Quadruple ale. Sweet wheat malt is quite strong and there is the scent of vanilla and sugar cookie dough present. I can smell the orange peel but in this case it is a bit bitter smelling like the pith of and orange, probably the hops adding a nuance.

The flavor begins sweet and spicy with the flavor of wheat malt as expected. Alcohol adds a spicy taste of pepper here, can't forget that this is a white beer that packs a punch. Quite a bit of warmth in the throat and stomach from this one. Mild taste this just isn't as raw or over flavored as many beers that have the "Imperial" label attached to it. This is a good witbier but it isn't as subtle as a Hoegarrten or as flavorful as a St. Bernardus Witbier, this is just very clean and strong in alcohol. There is one unexpected flavor here, green apples.

The mouthfeel is good and thick.

This is quite drinkable even for the strength of the alcohol in this. The main thing about this beer is the mildness of it for the alcohol punch it has. Tasty and a witbier despite what could be expected this is something unique, a Double Wit.
