750 ml bottle into tulip glass; no bottle dating, but bottled in 2009. Pours fairly pitch black color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of tart cherry, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, light banana, clove, pepper, light smoke/char, and roast/yeast earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and cherry juice notes; with good strength. Taste of lightly tart cherry, dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, licorice, raisin, prune, fig, light banana, clove, pepper, light smoke/char, and roast/yeast earthiness on the finish. Fair amount of yeast spiciness and roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toast, dark bread, molasses, dark fruit, clove, pepper, light smoke/char, and roast/yeast earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity and robustness of dark/roasted malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and light-moderate cherry juice flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and lightly chalky/bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming presence after the finish. Overall this is an awesome Belgian strong dark ale/porter style! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, fruity/spicy yeast, and light-moderate cherry juice flavors; and very smooth to drink for the ABV. A highly enjoyable offering.

Purchased at Ron's Market in Farmington, ME for $2.
Cellared for 6 months. Beer is 5 yrs old.

A: Poured into a Schlitz goblet. Dark brown, cola. Huge head that lingers. Lacing all the way down the glass.
S:Cherry, fig, other dark fruits.
T: Cherry juice! Great Brett funk.
M: Dry. Good carbonation. Not syrupy but a titch cloying. Really great fruit sloshed in with the Brett.

Overall, this beer is right in my wheelhouse. Good funk, aged nicely. Lots going on. Have another bottle. Will wait on that for awhile. I also couldn't pass up the $2 price. Ron's is sweet.

A: Dark brown with a billowing tan head that continues to ooze up. Great retention.
S: Strong cherry presence, vinegar, roasted malt.
T: Cherries are a little more subdued than in the smell. Malt is smooth, more of a smokey roast character than chocolate. Grape, cherry, and just a bit of tartness peeks out before a rauch-like woody smoked flavor. Finish is bitter and drying. Complex and incohesive.
M: heavy attenuation/dryness you would expect from a fruited beer with Brett that has been aged. Body is medium-light with moderate carbonation.

This beer was a bit of a disappointment when fresh, and it really hasn’t improved. Not bad, but I’d put it in the pile with the rest of collaborations where the sum doesn’t equal the parts.

750 ml bottle poured into sniffer, Phillip picked up for me at CBX, $16
A: pours a dark chocolate color, thin khaki foam head, some spotty lacing
S: incredible aroma, cherries, chocolate, grapes, slight Brett, Belgian candy sugar, fresh plums, hint of coffee.
M: medium syrupy body
T: cherry, tartness, chocolate, plum, banana from malt, Belgium candy sugar, barnyard funk from Brettanomyces, grape, dry sweet finish
O: complex and full of flavor, 5 stars in my book, this is a great sipper, would get another bottle to age.

A: The beer is very dark reddish brown (close to near black) in color. It poured with a short tan head that died down but never completely faded away.
S: There are moderately strong aromas of chocolate malts and cherries in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some hints of roasted malts and sourness. No bitterness is detectable.
M:It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is a beer that is both very flavorful and drinkable. It is remiss cent of a light stout.
