Nen Bangelijke means something like “An Awesome One” in local Flemish.

Draft @ Modeste 2011: Hazy citrus with a white head, bitter esters, slight malts, more yeast, orange peel, odd citrus bitterness, wattery spices, booze, meh. Lightly infected most likely like the rest of their beers. Not their worst one.

Served on-draught into a Pakhuis goblet. 9.5% confirmed. Translation according to my Belgian host: "A frightening one." Cost was 3.20 euro for a glass/11.80 euro for a pitcher. Reviewed from notes taken June 2011. I think I had this at a bar in Ghent, but I can't remember exactly.

A: Pours a two finger fluffy white head of slight cream and decent thickness. Very good retention for the high ABV. Colour is a cloudy light gold.

Sm: Cream, amber hops, and full barley. A mild strength aroma.

T: Cream, amber hops, maybe crystal malt, and a moderately full barley foundation. A lemon citrus ester hop tinge is present from the climax through the finish - which is refreshing and welcome. Complex enough, but not expressive or bold. Alcohol is well hidden. Feels a bit restrained and muted for a beer of this ABV.

Mf: Too coarse and dry for the style. Not at all complementary of the flavours on the body.

Dr: High ABV. Drinkable enough. Unrefreshing but well priced. Their blonde is better.

Bought at the Cafe in Antwerpen where it is brewed. Poured out of a 1l bottle into a chalice. Expiry date is today.

L: tiny head that reduces to thin layer immediately. Body is amber and clear. No carbonation visible.

S: not very complex smell for a tripel of banana and little hops

T: balanced tripel sweetness, banana and moderate hoppy bitter aftertaste

F: little fine carbonation detectable towards the throat, slightly watery,

O: a tripel that needs to be braver. For too simple and not enough refreshing and taste. Low carbonation could be due to age. I remember the beer to have more carbonation and to be sweeter in the cafe on tab. However there is nothing unpleasant about. Just very average.

Poured from a large bottle (looked like a 750ml, but sure label said 1 litre? - a friend brought me this bottle following a visit to the brewery lat month) into a wine glass

amber to orange/dark blond in colour with a big head of white foam, 2 fingers, which largely retained it's presence througout drinking

Smelt of spice, hops, yeast

Not to sweet for a tripel and a little hint of sour flavour to it. A good range of spices thrown in, cloves and cinnamon for sure!

Good mouthfeel, nice and smooth on the palate made you want more

A decent tripel

Christmas gift from my brother on his last trip to Belgium. Poured from one of those large swing-top bottles. Red paper around the top with the beer's name. Simple label.

Poured the color of a pilsner or kolsch--clear gold. Big and white foamy head. Nose was slightly sour and I could pick up a bit of an alcohol presence.

Rather sour for a tripel but quite nice. Fairly sweet but the sourness prevails. Hints of spices (cinnamon, ginger and clover around the edges. Lots of lemon and other citrus. Nice full flavor with a slightly dry finish--that does kind of tire out the tongue a bit. Alcohol is very arid. I can smeel it more than taste after it hits the palate. Very nice and drinkable. If I were to pick a season for this beer I would think the spring is a nice time of year.
