Pours like an IPA. Smells sharp and weedy. Very malty, but no nodes of bread or caramel like what you'd expect in a British IPA. Odd, but not really off.

Tastes about the same as it smells: odd, not really my taste, but not bad. Weeds and grains dominate throughout with just a little bit of citrusy bitterness at the very back end.

An awfully strange beer, made all the more strange because it's seemingly designed to be this way? Like, it's not badly brewed, probably, so much as it's just brewed to an inexplicable style?

On tap at the source
Lightly hazy deep golden color with a minimal head. Aromas of bread, caramel, and earth with a touch of fruitiness. Grassy earthy hop aromas remind me of the trub and spent hops from the bottom of my kettle after a brewday. The flavor is malty caramel sweet. The hops are earthy and grassy with a moderate amount of bitterness. Medium body and carbonation level. Fairly run of the mill ipa.

IMHO this is their best beer and the bar isn't raised by it. Being educated in brewing or attending school would certainly help here

After a long day with my feet on the pavement canvassing Manchester for a climate change action group, I headed to Able Ebenezer to get my growler re-filled. I decided to go with this brew and I am glad I did. Poured into my trusty run-of-the-mill kitchen glass.

A- Cloudy orange, bronze, very minimal head (but it was served cold).

S- I get malts and not much else, maybe a hint of citrus at the very end. I had to swirl the glass a few times to get any sort of hop aroma. For an IPA, not as impressive as I'd like.

T- Makes up for the aroma. This is a very balanced IPA. It starts off malty with a toasty presence before the citrus and earthy hops come in to play. The hop combination is quite nice, earthy and citrus hops are well in tune with one another. Not a "hop bomb" like Smuttynose Finest Kind, but very balanced.

M- Crisp, refreshing, very unique for an IPA. Very nice after a long day of beating the pavement in Manchester.

O- I am beginning to come around to Able Ebenezer after not being wowed too much by my first visit. It really seems like these guys are getting their footing and cranking out some quality brews. This beer is now my favorite from them. It is my style of IPA: hoppy but not overly so with some unique toasted flavors going on. Keep it up guys!
