Notes: 2015 GABF gold medal winner, International-style Pale Ale category. "Tropical" IPA brewed with 100% Mosaic hops, lending intense aromas of passion fruit, guava, and lychee. Light on bitterness, but big on hop flavor with dry finish.

Poured from a ten-day old can into a tulip glass. I also had this beer on draft a few hours before so some sense of comparison is on my mind in reviewing it.

Look - Very nice appearance, a hazy lemon yellow or light amber gold depending on the angle of view.

Smell - Dank, earthy hops and tropical fruit with a refreshing crispness.

Taste - This beer strikes a perfect balance between being slightly watery and opaque/hazy/viscous/sticky/juicy, particularly because it's pretty dry in texture. It manages to be incredibly refreshing and thirst-quenching but also very flavorful. The taste is also dominated by dank and fruity hops. It's sweet and juicy with a slight hint of cannabis. There's only a bit of bitterness, but enough to balance out the flavor.

Feel - Dry and fairly viscous, a prickly bitterness following bright fruit flavors, and a fruity and sweet but quite resiny aftertaste.

Overall - This is an awesome IPA in the up-and-coming juicy/lightly roasted malt variety (the most similar approach I'm familiar with being Fieldwork in Berkeley). A must-try for California craft beer drinkers close enough to get it.

Can poured into a Mountain Rambler Brewing Co pint glass

A: Pours golden amber with a frothy off white head that settles to a light layer and leaves some thin lacing.

S: Sweet tropical fruit, a little citrus, floral notes, biscuity malt, and light caramel sweetness.

T: Big tropical fruit, guava dominates, with a little mango and faint papaya, floral, some citrus, lemon and tangerine, a little biscuity bready malt, and some caramel honey sweetness.

M: Medium body, moderate carbonation.

O: Pretty simple ingredient list executed beautifully.
