The Buckhorn Saloon isn't really a beer destination, but I wasn't disappointed in visiting because there are some bars that just have so much history or unique and interesting features that you've got to see them. McSorley's Old Ale House and the White Horse Tavern in New York come to mind.

It's been completely restored, but just based on the layout and the decor it really gives you a sense of what a large tavern would have been like in 1910. And there's a lot to look at, mainly hunting trophies, but even if that's not your thing the 78 point buck centered above the mirrored back bar isn't to be missed.

As for beer, there are a few locals on tap, and I enjoyed a Rahr & Sons "Ugly Pug Black Lager". Of course it is a bit of a tourist trap, and the only size available is the 20 oz. "fishbowl" for $8 - but hey, if you've never had one of those that's an experience in itself.

After you've visited the Alamo, and the Cenotaph that Ozzy pissed on, wander down and take a look. It doesn't cost anything to go in and sit at the bar!
