NW of the City of Luxembourg lays Redange, a well kept town set in beautiful countryside with just one main road that runs through it. On the main road at #61 there is a lovely 2 storey stone building. Hard to spot that this is a Brewpub, (we drove past at first), as it has only the smallest of signs hanging from the outside.

The building actually housed a Brewery until 1880 when it ceased operating. Slowly the building has been coming back to life. At first with just a Brewery in 2001, then a Café, and now a Restaurant. The entrance to this “BrewPub” lies at the rear of the building, where it is evident that a serious amount of restoration has taken place, as well as a sympathetic extension and some remodeling. Inside, the warming russet painted walls, wooden furniture, bare floorboards & ironwork fittings lend a very organic feel to the place, quite in keeping with the beers they brew. The small wooden ‘J’ shaped bar is immediately on your right hand side; it has one stainless font with 4 taps, & can barely accommodate 2 people at any one time. In front of you are 2 massive Stainless Steel vessels slightly elevated & separated by a small stairway. There are a couple of tables in front of the Bar, whilst to the left the wooden staircase lead upstairs to the Restaurant & the well kept hi-tech restrooms.

Brews & Bottles on the premises, so they always have the 3 staple beers on sale. If they run out of the draft they have plenty of the bottled variety as back-up. Beers are made with Organic materials wherever possible, though the Brewer Jean Bollendorf professed to finding organic hops hard to come by. During our Brewery Visit, they had the Okult No.1 Blanche (5.4%), Okult No.2 Rousse (5.4%) & Okult No.3 Blonde (5.4%) on draft, all of a high quality. But the star of the show for me was the Okult Stout (6.2% ABV), the draft had long sold out & it was served from the Bottle, though we did get the chance to try some of the next batch from a Storage Tank in the Cellar – Awesome! Specials & Seasonals are planned.

The food is home-made on the premises from local produce. We had a large plate of superb ham & other cold meats with fresh salad and proper chips (not French fries!!!), which accompanied our beer rather well.

Great to see a real beer revival in Luxembourg, set in a beautiful old building, sympathetically restored & modernized, producing quality beer again after a ‘short’ 120 year intermission. Quite Rightly So!
