330ml bottle from Yamaya Nagahoribashi, Osaka (¥410):
Not a bad hefeweizen on the whole despite starting poorly on the nose with some corn & basic malts kicking things off, thankfully the traditional wheat beer flavours weren't too far behind though & it turned out to be a pleasant & drinkable beer with some nice banana, clove & wheat flavours alongside some faint bubblegum towards the end. Whilst not the best of the style I tried in Japan, the beer was enjoyable enough to make it worth trying but I'm not sure if it's one that I'd go back to again.

Drank on tap at the brewery owned bar in Osaka. Really looks the part of a good weizen. Thick creamed honey body. The expectant banana clove notes are there if not a touch soft. Pleasant creamy mouthfeel. touch of sweetness, falls off a little at the back, but overall a good take on the hefe style.

A straight down the middle hefe, with very little in the way of distinctive characteristics. Its almost like they found a template and followed it with a decent level of success.
Typical hazy yellow appearance, with a good white head that showed average retention as it died to a film, leaving a few streaks of lace on the glass. The nose is a subtle, but balanced, mix of banana, tangy wheat and mild clove. Expected banana and wheat aromas come through well in the flavour, and the tangy wheat combines with a touch of citrus to give it some zing. If anything its a little less spicy than your average hefe. Fairly light mouthfeel and steady carbonation is to style.
We were actually pretty impressed with this one - although it didn't stand out from the pack it seemed like a solid rendition. Not the best Japanese weizen, but still worthy.

Cloudy gold body and overall soft and delicate appearance. Evenly processed soft, foamy head. Nose is mild weiss with some accents of banana. Mellow in the mouth as well, mildly sweet, with some artificial banana taste. Fairly uninteresting weizen compared with all the great japanese ones out there.

Initial tasting on 22Feb04
Appearance: Pure white head on a dark yellow body. Not as yeasty looking as it should.
Aroma: Banana and pepper.
Taste: Really tastes like banana and wheat with some lemon zing on the finish. Kinda sweet.
Mouthfeel: Light body.
I drank this after chatting with the brewer, who is the daughter of the owner. The owner's two young daughters run the brewing and sales side of this operation from what I can tell. From our conversation and from her passion for beer I wanted to give this beer straight 5s, but I was just not that impressed with the beer.
Second tasting 7Apr05
Cant believe I rated it so favorable in my initial rating. Dropped a point of the appearance as the top half was opaque and the bottom half was transparent, kinda looked weird.
