Aroma is citrus and sweet/fruit/berries/floral. The flavor is citrus/fruit, unique malts/grains and a spicy/very slightly dank hop/mildly sweet berry finish.

Taste: complex tangy hop notes of grass, piney, floral note with dry clean finish. Same with the big dry nose. Gold, semi clear, big foam head with lattice of lace. Medium body. 55 IBUs

Pours clean and clear. the head is white..bright white. The nose has a hint of hops as does the taste. Not as hoppy as I like, but still a good drinkable beer.

Designed for Chicagoland politicos in mind, the taste that defined America's craft brewing thirty years ago manifests in an arid dry malt backbone and an elevated hop level that's sure to leave a bitter taste in your mouth.
The Machine pours with a golden amber hue that's one shade deeper than hearty lager but a far cry from the copper color of classic examples. Its frothy honeycomb foam stance thwarts a dry citrusy scent that's more perfumy of herb than of a juicy or radiant scent. Its taste is dry and cracker-like with hints of nuttiness, caramelized grain, faint honey and graham cracker.
But the sweetness falls off fast as a hoppy taste soon takes over the middle palate. Dried fruit peels of orange, grapefruit and lemon dance boldly on the tongue along with a peppery, herbal and hay-like bitterness to follow. Dried juniper and pine needles come in late as any maltiness that remains seem of peanut skins and the crust of bread.
Expressively carbonated, the beer's maltiness is a distant memory as the moderate bitterness of hops seem stronger because of the malty void. A long stemmy, grassy and herbal bitterness lingers on with lemon verbena, chive and a gentle waft of hemp.

Batch 246
Appearance: The liquid pours out with a hazy golden color, the head spuming upwards to a full three fingers; nice retention with a smattering of lace left behind
Smell: The aroma reeks of dryness, with star apple and grapefruit pith tones
Taste: Quite bitter, from the outset, with the tropical fruit bitterness bringing both star apple and grapefruit pith along with some vinous tones, in the middle; the finish is overwhelmingly dry with an astringent aftertaste
Mouthfeel: Light to medium body with moderate carbonation
Overall: Expecting a run of the mill pale ale, I was startled and rather displeased with my first sip; after a few more swigs, I was able to figure out what was going on and did a 180 on the beer; I don't love it but I do enjoy its singularity for the style

Interesting for a brewer to make political jokes... but when from Chicago, it is a way of life for all.
The joke even starts interesting; cloudy the way a pale should be.
Aromatics give you nice floral/piney hops with the balanced malt backbone.
Taste is largely the same, but the dryness emerges fast and announces the finish.
The Machine also went well with a medium salsa.
While Marz is brewed in Bridgeport, the home of the Daley Dynasty... Chicago is now well on to finding out how to govern itself in the new era. Because Chicago has done well relative to other Rust Belt cities, how well the Machine worked will not be forgotten.
And I will have this ale again to remind me of how difficult it is to govern cities when the automobile was king.

Neighbor bought this at Binnys South Loop. It poured a hazy golden with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent is faint bitter. The taste is nicely balanced and easy to drink. The is a sweet malt that balances a slight pine bitterness. The Mouthfeel is medium in body with good carbonation. Overall it's good and worth a try.

Super cloudy orange yellow with mild carbonation and lacing. Very slight hoppy nose with a mild funk. Lighter taste-mild hops with a very subtle background of bitterness, tang, and funk. Not bad tasting, but not a lot going on.
