750 ml bottle into a snifter. Had this on 4/2/16.
Pours a cloudy amber, with not much of a head and some chalky lacing. Smell is led by the bourbon, some light malt, vanilla, some oak, figs, dates, a bit of a spicy aroma. Very nice smell. The taste also leads with the bourbon- fairly strong, then figs, malt, vanilla, raisins, a little caramel and green grapes, some oak, hint of cherries when warm. Smooth, good body, appropriately carbonated.
This was enjoyable, well crafted and flavorful, but the bourbon barrel overwhelms most of the wheatwine characteristics. Didn't get any of the stout influence, either. Probably should have let this sit another 4-5 months. Glad I had this, and applaud the creativity, but it came with maybe a too high price tag.

Appearance: Dark amber, little to no head. A bit murky. Not an attractive beer, but I've seen worse.
Smell: Not digging the nose. A lot of non-beer aromas, no malt presence on the nose, plenty of booze. Overpowering.
Taste: An improvement on the aroma but not by much. You get hit with a lot of whiskey, some heavy wheat, and I think the murk might come from the stout prevalence. If you're looking for a poor man's King Henry, this is more like indentured servitude-class.
Feel: The least attractive part of the beer. This is a big beer but it clings to your palate like an angry griffin. Thick, snakey, and a chore to work across your palate.
Overall: I've loved every Marz beer up until this one. This is a great example of how barrel-aging is something that you learn how to do over a long, long time. Very few breweries nail it in their early years. I'm always happy to support Marz but for now I'll stick to Jungle Boogie and the pale ales.
