so maybe its a bit of a tough thing to pay 12 or 13 dollars for a beer thats supposed to copy high life, which we all know can be purchased for less than that a 12 pack! however, i think there is value in it, for two reasons, and i like them both. one, its a gateway craft, a come aboard beer for those not yet accustomed, and price point aside, any yellow beer drinker is going to like this one. second, its kind of ironic, partially that miller lets this exist, but that people actually buy it instead of high life, i mean, craft for the sake of craft, its comical but also here i am drinking one, whatever that may say about me. we actually had it side by side with high life, and while they do look almost identical in the glass aside from this one holding its white head a little longer, they dont taste all that similar to even a somewhat refined palate. this has way more of a malt profile, a dry european natural pils type, and this tastes more to me like an import czech pils than it does like an adjunct lager, which also is because of the hoppier finish, still grassy and euro, but more robust than high life by a considerable margin. its not a great clone one to one, but it is a great beer, and an excellent stand in for it. certainly chuggable, and like all the marz stuff, its very well made and its high quality is obvious. i liked this quite a lot, although when you want a high life, only a high life can really suffice. fun idea and good execution though, worth trying, but at this price it cant be anyones fridge beer...

A 500ml bottle poured in a High Life glass for the obvious tribute to the Champagne Of Bottled Beer.

Look - Pours a sparkling gold leaving a small finger of foam behind. It quickly settles with no lacing present, but tiny carbonation bubbles can be seen surfacing.

Smell- Floral hops, spice and malt.

Taste- Floral notes, wet cereal/malt and a hint of peppery spice in the finish.

Feel- Crisp, clean, slightly spicy and semi dry.

Overall- A hoppy slightly spicy lager that's crisp, clean and easy drinking. The bigger brother to the beer it pays tribute to with the copycat label.

Tasted in a Spiegelau lager glass from a 500 ml bottle on February 7, 2018. If you are looking for a well crafted, high quality sparkling lager, this is it. Recommended.

Iron & Glass - Romeoville, IL

Chug Life pours about how you'd imagine after seeing the knock off High Life label. Polished gold and bright. Streams of small carbonation rush to the surface and is intermingled with large, solo bubbles exploding forth. It looks like an upside down snowstorm in there. A fizzy white head is a finger in height and fades, rather slowly, to a soapy ring. This is a fine lookin' beverage.

Damn, not a bad nose either. Bready as hell, white bread with a clean, soft sugar cookie sweetness. A grassy hop profile brings balance and salivation. There's a righteous floral component in there as well, not perfume but actual flowers. This beer smells like a champ.

The nose follows pretty closely. Grassy and floral off the bat. The grass takes the lead and is very well done. That Noble Hop profile hangs over the top of all that breadiness. There is a good balance. A soft sweetness in the middle is then again surpassed by a soft hoppy bitterness. Very well done.

As good as every other aspect of this beer is I think that the mouthfeel is the shining point. It's a notch under moderate in weight but there's a plush, velvety feel which seems to add an overall roundness. It's soft. The finish is dry with a light lingering bitterness. The exact lingering bitterness that a top class pils ought to have. This beer is about as drinkable as it gets.

I'm shocked by the quality of this beer for a couple reasons. I picked it up thinking it was some sort of playful High Life clone, it's far from that. Secondly, I don't really think of Marz as a brewer of great lagers because, well, this is the first lager that I have ever had from them and the only one I have ever seen. This stuff is excellent. If it was canned up for a lower price point I would buy it often. As it stands, I will still buy it occasionally.
