Very Good
Sliced Nectarine IPASliced Nectarine IPA
Notes: The inspiration for this beer came in the form of a summer farmers market and the abundance of fresh fruits and produce. The resulting IPA showcases a bright tropical aroma of stone fruits that balances the grapefruit acidity of the Chinook hops. The beer’s crisp profile refreshes and delights taste-buds and craves pairings such as slow-roasted pork shoulder or a slice of warm peach pie.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a tulip glass. Hazy amber pour with 1 finger head. Head dissipated quickly with minor lacing.

Sweet citrus on the nose.

Plenty of big citrus up front with a lingering bitter finish.

This beer has two notes: sweet citrus, soft bitterness. I'm not getting much else. Detecting very little malt or nuance off of the hop/citrus combo.

Overall, this is pleasant and drinkable but it lacks the complexity of some of the other citrus IPA's that are available.

To me this beer was very heady, when I opened it, I poured it and it was all head, too me that was just the ultimate turn off, I got a 4 pack and have two left which I won't drink, I clicked have, because the remaining two will be in my fridge for quite some time!

A solid and very drinkable IPA. Not bitter and a great starter IPA for those wading into the IPA waters.

(initially reviewed on draft during CCBW 2016. Subsequently had from a bottle and updated the review)

Poured a hazy golden orange color with a two finger white head. Thick head sticks around FOREVER with tons of lacing.

Smell was prominently citrusy with lots of orange and tangerine coming through along with a slight sweetness coming through. Lots of tangerine but it didn't smell fake. From the bottle you get a more pronounced malt backbone coming through in the aroma with some tangerine rind notes.

Taste was a very balanced mildy hopped IPA with strong prominent tangerine notes. Lots of tangerine and tangerine rind flavor, but it wasn't overly sweet or fake tasting. I was actually impressed that they pulled off the fruit flavors nicely. Not a ton of hop character in the way you;d expect an American IPA to be. Its much closer to an English IPA in that regard as the hops are more subtle and complimentary and not in your face.

Feel was overly carbonated to the point that if you so dare as pour it in anything but the most gentle way you'll get a plume of foam. Once the foam settles down, its very drinkable and refreshing.

Overall I was favorably impressed with this one - I hadn't really liked any of Moody Tongue's previous beers, but this one was good. They pulled the tangerine off pretty well and made a very balanced very refreshing IPA.

Just opened one of these in a combo pack....has kind of dry, fruity taste that has a slight bite to it, but nothing too nasty...nice IPA - will have another...

Bottle: Poured an amber/copper color ale with a nice thick foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of dry bitter hops with some light cereal notes. Taste is very akin to an English-style IPA with dry bitter notes, light cereal and very subtle fruit notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Not bad but closer to an English style IPA than anything else.

Nectarine = It's a peach that tastes more like peach than actual peaches do. That's a summary of how this juicy, vibrant and brilliantly ripe fruit attaches to an ale that exhibits much of the same character already. My, oh my, what hops can do!

Moody Tongue's fruit-forward IPA doesn't just rely on its fruit character as the tone is set early with the exotic hop blends that kick off with citrus, tropical and orchard varieties. Even its bright orange-gold hues say as much. Yet once the nose lifts and the first sip takes hold, the dripping succulence of fructose seems to coat the palate like honey.

Hoppy at its core, the deeply resinous iuttering from hops charge from beneath and set a soothing bitter tone. Gaining in intensity as the flavors traverse over the tongue, what starts with a fruity, orange, mango and peach character eventually finishes with a lemon-peel bite, an herbal sassafras tone and intense pink grapefruit.

Its finish retains a great deal of fruit from both hops and additions, but its body quivers and favors dryness, refreshment and drinkability. Yet a fruity tone persists as its aftertaste is peppery pectin and racing with hard peach. Its a curious ale that never looses its base. Its IPA contingency remains front and center.

Saturated sunset orange tone, initial foam that fades quickly with no lace.
Citrusy orange/grapefruit aroma, not getting any nectarine or peach.
Taste is mildly bitter and citrus peel notes come through, lingering into the bitter aftertaste. Light to medium bodied, moderate carbonation, easy drinking. A pretty textbook IPA.

From notes taken 9/15 on a visit to Chicago.

Pure amber in color with a subtle aroma that includes notes of citrus and malt. Tastes of light fruits, and grain. Not a whole lotta' bitter. There's a slight spiciness in the back ground. Light in body.

Always a highlight of any trip to seek out the new and local. And while this isn't necessary a top-tier IPA, it sure was fun drinking it, if for nothing more than the spirit of exploration.
