This bourbon barrel aged beer elicits nostalgia for the moment you walk into your grandmother’s kitchen during the holidays and smell fresh gingerbread cookies baking in the oven. This 15.0% Imperial Stout, aged for 12 months in Heaven Hill bourbon barrels, showcases the flavor of a bourbon-soaked gingerbread cookie alongside the aromatics of vanilla and cinnamon. While we are big on holiday flavors and aromatics, we also intentionally create this delight with a lighter body than one might expect. After all, the holidays are about indulgence, and we don’t want to be full after just one beer.

I was plesently surprised by this one as i am not a big gingerbread fan. Thankfully the gingerbread did not standout and the taste was muted by the bourbon flavor. The bourbon flavors really stood out here. There were slight molasses notes towards the end of the taste that gave it a sort of gingerbread flavor.

Well i'm trying this while sick with covid. luckily, i still have senses of taste and smell, and i'm hoping to god i don't lose them so i don't miss out on the wonderful experience that is beer. Purchased for i dont know how much, but less than $8 at lizardville, my local singles store. It's a 2019 bottle, so it's been aging two years on now.My first from Moody Tongue. Never even heard of this brewery. Poured out dark brown cola colored, and a quick darting head that didn't last much longer than i did with my wife last night. slight ring of tan is left around the edge of the glass. the smell is very inviting, it is like a butterscotch caramel twix dream, deep and sugary, but my wife says it smells like pipe and i can see that tobacco would also describe this. taste is absolutely thirst quenching, sweet and savory, thick and syrupy, smoky and leathery, just simply wonderful. i've got the aforementioned butterscotch and caramel, supported by darker molasses and brown sugar, cinnamon. yes i totally get the cookie flavor its gingerbread name imparts, this is like a delicious christmas cookie, full of a swirling marriage of dark ingredients. mouthfeel is medium bodied and medium carbonated. overall, i'm really digging this beer, it's got a lot of character and i'd like to have it again. i don't really understand why they didn't give this beer a proper name, instead of just a generic description of what's inside it. i would keep gingerbread in the name but call it like gingerbread dream or something like that.but it's got a high abv of nearly 14% so maybe super gingerbread dream. i'll be having this beer again, bravo!

12 oz bottle, 2019, into Thulsa Doom.
Purchased at Cottage Liquor in Mobile, AL.
Pours a ruddy reddish-brown with a fingernail of beige head.
Aroma is of alcohol, moldy bread, and biscuit dough from the bottle; from the glass I get a bit of that and then some ginger and bourbon peeking through. Some sweetbread and cinnamon roll comes through as well.
Flavor is too sweet right off the bat. Syrupy/sugary entry bringing sharp table sugar, dark berries, over-sugared vanilla, ginger cola, and a little bit of red hots. The bourbon comes in a bit at the end, with a hint of tart berry, herbal/pine, and then an interesting cinnamon roll punch to the throat a few seconds after the swallow.
Feel is clinging, sugar-y, syrupy, and most of all intensely burning. The burn is too much to handle. It sets your mouth and throat on fire. Burns worse than World Wide Stout. Prickly carbonation adds to the problem.
Overall not impressed in the least and I probably won't finish it. It's too bad because I was looking forward to this one.
Price paid : $5.59 / bottle
Would buy again : Nope

the first taste you get the bourbon aged flavor then the gingerbread - very strong as you drink it - a slight burning as you finish it - had a lot better beers from this brewery

12 ounce bottle into a snifter. 2018 edition, had 9/6/19.
Pours a thick looking dark brown, opaque, with no real head and spotty lacing. Aromas of bourbon, chocolate, roasted malt, ginger, molasses, char, raisins, some toffee, light oak. Flavors of bourbon, ginger, malt, chocolate, molasses, raisins, caramel as it warms. Smooth, a good full body, well carbonated.
A well made beer. The barrels are impactful, the ginger really stands out as it warms, distinct aromas and flavors, solid base stout. Very enjoyable. Worth a purchase.

2019 vintage. 12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a small khaki head that falls leaving nice retention and lacing. The aromas have lots of sweet vanilla frosting along with some coconut. Ginger comes through along with some hints of cinnamon. The bourbon comes through and blends well with everything. Malts are there. The flavors follow the nose. The ginger and spices lead the way. More vanilla and coconut. Some raisins and walnuts in the mix. The bourbon isn't shy, but it doesn't dominate to the point where it's diminishing the other flavors. The bourbon is bold but ultimately balanced. Malts do their thing. It's definitely on the sweeter side, but it's not cloying or anything over the top. Mild warmth in the finish, but the alcohol is well hidden considering the ABV. Mouthfeel is full-bodied with moderate carbonation. It's fluffy but not really thick. It's smooth and dangerously drinkable.
This is a great brew. They definitely deliver on the gingerbread and bourbon aspects. Great aromas and flavors. This is definitely a "dessert stout". This one is highly enjoyable and well executed.
