Cycle Brewing "Crank IPA"
12 fl. oz. can, "CANNED ON 08/06/20 10:47" and sampled on 12/24/20
$2.89 @ ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, Wildwood, FL

Notes via stream of consciousness: I've had this beer before but I must have lost the notes. It was at the brewery though in St. Pete's, and this appears to be brewed and canned by BrewHub - not that it makes any difference anyway, that was years ago and I could never remember if it's the same or not. So, let's see... it's poured a very hazy, even cloudy, golden-orange body beneath a finger's width of rocky, slightly off-white foam. The aroma offers some floral character, grapefruit, lemon zest, citrus pith, orange, and soft pine over a grainy malt base. It's not the brightest aroma but I've just reminded myself, as I'm now reminding you, that it's just an IPA. I'm going to guess that it's not dry hopped, although it might be. Regardless, it's perfectly acceptable. Moving on, the taste is much fuller, and although it follows those same notes found in the aroma the malt is richer with an almost honey-like note added to it. There's some powdery floral character, which is slightly odd, and I'm guessing coming from the yeast, and some apple and nectarine. A firm bitterness balances it nicely, and it finishes dry with a touch of that honeys malt steadily fading. In the mouth it's medium bodied and crisp. Overall I'll call it a just slightly unique kind of standard IPA. I wouldn't choose it as my own, but I could easily see lots of people buying this by the case as their go-to beer.

From a 12 oz can dated 06/09/20. Sampled Aug 26, 2020.

Slightly cloudy golden color with a long lasting foamy white head.

Nice sensations of citrus, juice, melon, and a lower profile cereal grain.

The body is smooth and medium.

The taste begins sweet and bready but in no time the citrus juices roll on in and evolve into a medium bitter bite at the finish.

Forgot to rate when I had it. Special Tap Event at the Brew Hub Taproom - St. Louis, 02/01/2020.

Bright, clean, hoppy, and mildly bitter. Sweet citrus emerges quickly with undertones of mango & pineapple. A great clean, go-to IPA.

The equality shines throughout.

Start with the aroma, fine citrus notes. The bitterness softens as the flavor takes over with a great finish. Colder the better on this one!!

Crystal clear gold. Pleasant grapefruit, berry, stone fruit and tropical in the nose with warm malt. Flavor is on the fruity side. Medium light bitterness, medium moderate mouthfeel.

Came across a couple of cans while visiting in Florida and brought them back. Beautiful looking beer with dark yellow and amber accents. Hoppy goodness on the nose and bursting with flavor. Lots of hops for a tropical sort of IPA. Citrus and pine notes with a bit of malt on the finish. Really refreshing mouthfeel. This beer was a huge surprise for me in a good way. I know their stouts are great, but this is a phenomenal IPA.

Pours a chill hazed light orange with one finger of creamy white foam. Smell: tangerine, lemon-lime, dried grass. Taste: sugared grapefruit, lime, orange peel, grassy; sweet. Light-medium bodied, body is a bit sugary without a whole lot of carbonation to cut through.

Pours cloudy medium-dark gold with a one finger dense silky off-white head.

Aroma is not too strong but has solid citrus notes, all hops.

The flavor is just-right sweet up front with a fresh, floral tangerine and grapefruit flavor. There is a bit of pine that comes through in the mid-taste, but the hops ride through to the finish and don't morph much. That makes for a very pleasant beer.

Feel is soft, but not overly so, and has a little effervescent without much bitterness.

This is a very refreshing beer, bursting with wonderful flavor and brewed very well. Should be a no-brainer to try it when in the area. Hats off to my man Batch for bringing it back up north in a suitcase. Dedication to the fine art of loving beer is a quality worth striding for.

Poured a copper body with minimal head and constant lace ring. Slightly skunky, dirty, earthy hop aroma. Smooth, clean, almost creamy beer with a medium body that has a slightly sweet caramel malt aftertaste. Pleasantly only mildly bitter and well-balanced, beer has a zippy citric hop finish and is a great and easy beer to drink.

Piney grassy citrus hops to the aromas. Taste of bread and orange peel. Finished smooth. Look is lacking with virtually no lace to speak of. Smell is pleasantly pungent. Mouthfeel is above average. Taste is where the beer excels. Nice work.

Had this on tap at a World of Beer in Tampa. The beer had a clear, dark gold appearance with a large white head. There were good, grassy citrus hops to the aromas. In terms of taste, the beer had a strong mango-like aftertaste to an overall citrus flavoring. Medium body. Overall, I really liked the aromas to the beer.

Half pour at brewery. Clear golden color with fluffy white head.

Fresh baby powder and feet, seems a common aroma with this brewery.

Bitter rinds to start , slight pine, broccoli, grapefruit rinds, evergreen, orange peel, faint raisin, feet, sesame cracker.

Feel is crisp and unflinching resiny.

Overall it's ok. Bitters cling to the palate as all get out. Nothing it's hyped up to be, not an NEIPA, reminiscent of west Oregon IPA. Eh.

On-tap at Cycle Brewing, St. Petersburg, FL

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a slight amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a half finger high white head that died down and left a short head on the surface.
S: Light aromas of grapefruit are present in the nose.
T: The taste follows the smell and has stronger flavors of grapefruit.
M: It feels medium-bodied and a little crisp on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer has nice aromas and flavors of grapefruit.

Received as a gift from a fellow BA. I was quite impressed. This beer had pretty much everything I look for in an IPA. Not as in your face hoppy as some-which I happen to like, just a very enjoyable topnotch IPA

Sent a crowler by my brother for Christmas. Cloudy, dark orange, very little in the way of foam or lacing, lots of sediment at the end of the crowler. Dank, citrusy notes on the nose. Taste is a balance of mildly bitter and citrusy hops. Zesty and dank, gentle alcohol presence. Pretty good.

Great IPA. Nice intense citra hops, and a solid body and flavor. 7-7.5% abv is the sweet spot for me, so this was perfect. Little bit of malty goodness in there too.

On tap at The Marco Island Brewery in Fl.

Pours a hazy golden color with white head. Citrus hops, pine, resin, grapefruit and lemon; extremely bitter.

Overall smells good but very bitter taste; bit too much for me.

Pours a brilliant sun golden orange with a touch of haze and a finger of fluffy off-white foam.

The citra hops explode out of the glass lending juicy aromas of orange, pineapple, grapefruit, and mango.

The citra hop bill takes front stage with an explosion of juicy citrusy and tropical fruit flavors, but a little one sided as I'm not getting much from the malt bill.

Medium-bodied, medium-high carbonation, juicy, citrusy, tropical, finishes bitter and dry from a lackluster malt bill.

Overall, this is factually an extremely pleasant beer to look at and the citra hops provide a marvelous aroma, but the overall balance in flavor leans towards bitter citrus which isn't helped by the lack of sweetness from the malt bill. This is certainly a fantastic beer, but IMO needs more balance.

Poured on tap at the brew pub, the beer is a slightly hazed, golden coloring, with a foamy, light, clingy, white head. Nose of resinous pine, tart and sweet grapefruit and lemon, sweet caramel, and subtle roasted notes. Well balanced. Flavors are smooth and balanced forward, with a blend of tart grapefruit and lemon on a grassy and piney backbone. Subtle cracker and caramel notes, all on a robust, slick, and slightly astringent body. The aftertaste is citrus and resinous pine pitch. The finish is slick and bitter, with a drying feel. Really good IPA.

I seriously think I'm the 1% with the citra/mosaic craze. It must be similar to the cilantro thing. I get it for what it is. And I really appreciate it. I just want some centennial/simcoe/cascade. Classics-ish! Mouth feel and aroma on this are outta this world.

Pale gold and fairly bright though there is mild haze. 2 finger chalk white head with decent retention. Lots of sticky lacing.

Big aroma, noticeable as soon as the crowler was cracked. Strong lemon. Grapefruit and pineapple. A bit of malt, both caramel and biscuit-y.

Taste in strong, bitter lemon - rind, zest, and juice. A mild chalky note. Doughy, biscuit-y malt. A touch of pine and floral hop.

Medium body with medium carbonation. Very dank and citrus-y. Strong, lingering bitter lemon.

Big, bold, dank showcase for the citra hop. Slightly over bitter.

Fresh crowler drank in a chalice on 6/16/2016

Gonna just give a quick rundown on this one. It was a really enjoyable beer and very reflective of an East Coast IPA...or should I call it an OG East Coast IPA since it's not a hazy juicebomb but a nice hoppy beer with a firm malt backdone? Either way it was tropical citrusy, very fresh and refreshing nose and taste. This beer is beyond drinkable, so I'll call it crushable. Would love to have this on draft next time I am in FL.
