22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2016 vintage bottling. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with small fairly dense tan head with poor retention, that reduces to nothing pretty quickly. Minimal lacing on the glass, with a fair amount of coconut floaties on the top. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, coconut, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, coconut, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, coconut, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of licorice, raisin, prune, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Very mild herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, coconut, caramel, molasses, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, dark bread/crust, licorice, dark fruit, light smoke/char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coconut, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a solid roast/hop bitter/sweet, and bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and super full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety, fairly slick, and lightly sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 12% and spice heat; with no lingering barrel booziness after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged flavored imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, coconut, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish. Fantastic soft/silky feel for the ABV. Fantastic balance between super rich malts, coconut, and bourbon barrel presence/integration; mild earthy hops and fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected. Not overwhelming on any aspect, aged amazingly well.
