22 ounce bottle poured into a tulip, drank 12.10.19, bottle from 2016 or 2017, properly cellared.

Pour was thick and viscous, great 2 inch brown head, some of which remained around the edges of the glass throughout the entire drink.

Smell was malty and stouty.

Taste was hot. Chilies all the way, too much for me but that's OK. Definitely some char, before I realized which Trademark Dispute this was, I thought it was coffee. No hint of Vanilla or Cinnamon.

Overall a quality beer if you like chilies, which I do, but not as much in beer. If they were toned down a bit, I think I could have given this a higher rating. Don't think time did any favors to the other adjuncts, but I still certainly enjoyed drinking this.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, 2016 vintage bottling. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger fairly dense and flufy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Nice spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, chili peppers, bourbon, toasted oak, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, toffee, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, cinnamon, chili pepper, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, chili peppers, bourbon, toasted oak, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with lighter notes of coconut, toffee, licorice, molasses, raisin, prune, cherry, fig, date, smoke, char, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, roast, charred bitterness; and cinnamon, chili, bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, chili peppers, bourbon, toasted oak, biscuit, dark bread/crust, coconut, toffee, licorice, molasses, dark fruit, light smoke/char, herbal, grass, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, cinnamon, chili pepper, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet, and bourbon/oak/spiciness balance; with no cloying, acrid, astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Mild increasing warmth of 12% and spice heat; with minimal lingering barrel booziness after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged spiced imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, cinnamon, chili pepper, vanilla, bourbon barrels, and light fruity yeast/earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish. Fantastic soft/silky feel for the ABV. Fantastic balance between rich malts, spices, and bourbon barrel presence/integration; mild earthy hops and fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering bitter/spicy dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstanding style example as expected. Not overwhelming on any aspect, aged amazingly well.

Appearance: Arrives fudge brown with a nice two fingers of tan foam; decent lacing action

Smell: Milk chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla, with a hint of chili

Taste: Milk chocolate forward, with cinnamon and vanilla building; the heat from the chili appears at mid-palate; after the swallow, the whisky and oak emerge

Mouthfeel: Full body with moderate carbonation; some warmth and heat from the chiii

Overall: Complex and interesting; not my favorite from Cycle but a strong effort

A very well done "Mexican Hot Chocolate beer" Cinnamon, peppers and vanilla are all present and well integrated. Mouth feel was solid. Very glad to have tried this beer.
