Got this one from desp59 a while back. Cheers, man!
From a bomber into a snifter
Brinner (breakfast / dinner) imperial maple coffee stout aged in bourbon barrels
APPEARANCE: Black pour yields a three finger, medium looking, fizzy dark tan head with good retention. Pretty noisy and crackly. Black body with lower levels of carbonation evident. Head get pretty pot holed and foamy while it slowly crackles down to a decent wisp cap and leaves touches of lacing. Splotchy wisp and ring remain leaving splotches of lacing down the glass.
SMELL: Bold nose on this one for sure, with lots of nice maple syrup, butterscotch, sweet creamy vanilla, roasted coffee and light bourbon on the nose. Milk chocolate and toffee as well. Really enticing.
TASTE: Maple syrup, butterscotch, bourbon and sweet, creamy coffee flavors up front. Plenty forthcoming. Some more bourbon and a bit of alcohol at the swallow with a bold and lingering finish of maple, sweet vanilla cream, butterscotch, milk chocolate, toffee, some woody notes and bourbon on the palate. Some nicely roasted coffee and a touch of alcohol as well. The maple is the show stopper here and the sweet, creamy coffee works great with the subtle bourbon barrels. Very nice.
PALATE: Medium body and medium carbonation. A little prickly on the palate, could be smoother, goes down fine with a bit of a burn and finishes mouth-coating. Some heat lingers.
OVERALL: Awesome stuff. Really flavorful and aromatic with a good feel to boot. The head could use a little work but that’s a minor issue. This one has all the right stuff in all the right places. The maple syrup was the star of the show while the coffee and barrel aging played more of a supportive role, but that worked just great. Delicious to the last drop. Thanks again for the brews, desp! This one was outstanding.
