22oz bottle poured into a snifter

A- pours a deep brown color with a small foamy off-white head that has short retention

S- tons of honey on the nose up front, followed by caramel, tobacco, leather, bourbon barrel and woody oak

T- honey follows the nose up front and continues into notes of tobacco, caramel, dried fig & raisin. Mid-palate gives some barrel notes with bourbon, brown sugar & honey. The finish lingers of bourbon and honey, as well as caramel

M- medium-heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a slightly foamy mouthfeel that finishes slightly creamy

O- just enough honey and nice barrel notes, very good

Awesome collaboration with TG, released today at Cycle Brewing. Black pour with ruby edges; creamy lite tan head; Google clarity under decedent lasting cap; solid ring; heavy lacing. Sweet caramel malt nose, with a whiff of bourbon; boozy exhale after first sip. Bourbon, toffee, caramel, raisins, dark cherries; lite bitter hop middle; semi sweet boozy fruit finish; didn't really notice honey...Medium full, smooth body, alcohol bite on tip of tongue with moderate carbonation; some warmth. Overall a great balance of malt and booze and and fruit flavors. Dangerously easy to drink (I was told the ABV is somewhere between 10 and 13%). Outstanding.

This puppy looks like a stout pouring very dark brown and filling to shades of coffee and matte black with a thin tan film to a thin ring.

Smell is prune, fig and raisin but also chocolate and nougat.

Taste is prune and raisin through a smooth, round and slick body supported by chocolate-like malt and smoky, charred oak where the bourbon is nicely in check with a light carbonation and dry finish.

Body is thin, but this is really well balanced. Kudos for a first attempt.

Smell and Flavor of bourbon, caramel, toffee, oak, and a little bit of stout influence in this beer. Well rounded flavors. medium bodied with low yet adequate carbonation. Not a hint of booze. This barrel aged english barleywine reminds me alot of King Henry. I also feel like the barrel notes are more consistent with Toppling Goliath's barrel program than with Pegs.

Got this one from desp a while back. Love these guys. Cheers! This is apparently their first attempt at a barleywine.

From a bomber into a snifter
Collaboration with Toppling Goliath
Bourbon BA Barleywine with honey

APPEARANCE: Pours out clear dark mahogany red and yields a three finger, medium looking, fizzy tan head with decent retention. Deep bistre brown / mahogany body, virtually black, with next to no carbonation evident. Head slowly fades to a full, frothy cap and clings to the glass, then to a slight, swirly wisp. Looks mostly flat by the end and leaves no real lacing.

SMELL: Bourbon, oak, toffee, caramel and butterscotch notes on the nose. Touches of dark fruits and honey as well.

TASTE: Bourbon and hints of oak up front, with a base of alcohol as well. Sweet toffee and caramel at the swallow as well, moving into a medium but lingering finish of dark fruit and toffee sweetness, butterscotch, honey, caramel, with some notes of oak and bourbon. A decent bit of booze lingers as well. Definitely tasty stuff.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Creamy enough on the palate, goes down smooth with a bit of a bit at the end and finishes somewhat sticky. Enough weight. Some definite heat lingers.

OVERALL: This is certainly a good stab at a barrel aged barley wine. All the right stuff is there, though both the nose and the flavor could be just a bit more forthcoming for the style. It does come out a little more as it sits though. A good beer that I enjoyed enough, and definitely worth checking out if you get the chance. For me, however, given how world-classly awesome their imperial stouts are, I’d spend my energy on those. Anyways, thanks again, desp! Always a pleasure.
