Reviewed from (long-standing) notes. 22 oz. bottle purchased in July 2017 at the brewery. Poured into an El Catador Barrel-Aged glass on 1/2/18.

A: Very dark brown with a thin tan head and a low amount of visible carbonation. Quite opaque, and it even looks thick while you're pouring it. The head (such as it is) fades fairly quickly.

S: Chocolate, cinnamon, and bourbon. Vanilla, roasted malts, and some oak. A modest roast to the malts, and a touch of coffee within the roast.

T: Cinnamon up front, with bourbon and chocolate. Vanilla and oak stay under the big roasted malt sweetness with just a touch of char. Caramel, more cinnamon, and some sweet toffee as well. Bourbon and cinnamon with some lingering mocha in the hang.

M: A nice thick mouthfeel, but maybe a bit less sticky than some of Cycle's stouts. A low but perhaps “as expected” level of carbonation sensation. The alcohol flavors are integrated for a BA Imperial Stout – the bourbon is present but not overwhelming.

O: The cinnamon is obvious but stops short of dominant. And the base beer underneath seems to be as good as most of Doug’s stouts. But I feel like the cinnamon needs another foil to play off of, at least for my preference. Whether it be the vanilla, hazelnut, or even the molasses and chilis of &+, I think another flavor lets the cinnamon complement the beer without trying to do all the heavy lifting by itself. Still, quite a tasty beer.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 7/2017. Pours opaque pitch black color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with light notes of coconut, licorice, raisin, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Minimal booze in the aromas as it warms. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon/cinnamon barrels, and light earthy hops/fruity yeast notes; with big strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, and dark bread/crust; with light notes of coconut, licorice, raisin, fig, date, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness. Mild herbal, grassy, peppery, roast, charred bitterness; and cinnamon/bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, molasses, bourbon, toasted oak, roasted nuts, biscuit, dark bread/crust, coconut, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, oak char, leather, tobacco, herbal, grass, pepper, and yeast/roast/toast/oaky earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon/cinnamon barrels, and light earthy hops/fruity yeast flavors; with a fantastic roasted bitter/sweet and cinnamon/bourbon/oak spiciness balance; with no cloying/acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitter/spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and lightly slick/sticky/chalky/tannic mouthfeel that is fantastic. Minimal warming alcohol for 12%, with zero lingering barrel booze after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged imperial stout. All around fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, bourbon/cinnamon barrels, and light earthy hops/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV, with the mildly bitter/spicy/tannic/drying finish; fantastic soft/silky feel for the ABV. Perfectly balanced super rich malts and bourbon/cinnamon barrel presence/integration; mild earthy hops and fruity yeast. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness. A highly enjoyable offering, and outstadning style example as expected. Aged extremely well.

Appearance: Pours midnight brown with a two finger head; streaky lacing

Smell: Bourbon barrel, chocolate, oak, cinnamon, vanilla and coconut tones

Taste: Chocolate forward, with big cinnamon and Bourbon flavors building; sweet and boozy, with the cinnamon, coconut and vanilla elements peeking through; a lot of Bourbon and booze in the finish

Mouthfeel: Big and full bodied with moderate carbonation; warmth in the gullet

Overall: Impressive but a bit boozy for my palate

Black color with almost no head. Aroma is spicy with herbs and cocoa nibs. Taste is sweet and spicy, a bit fruity with roasty finish. Medium to light body, quite light for a stout. Quite good one but the mouthfeel could use some improvement.

L: pours thick, almost pitch black and no head
S: a good mix of chocolate, barrel and cinnamon.
T: sweet chocolate and cinnamon. Decent barrel, not the boldest note smoothest barrel but it works.
F: thinner than it pours but decently thick, a bit of barrel heat.

Moderate pour yields a one inch dark tan head over a dark brown body with some lacing.

Nose of milk chocolate, cinnamon, and bourbon.

Taste of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, cinnamon, and booze.

Nice velvety feel.

Overall, a very well made BBA Imperial Stout and I'm glad I had the opportunity to try this.

Got this one from desp59 in a recent box. Cheers!

From a bomber into a snifter
Bourbon barrel THEN Cinnamon bourbon barre aged imperial stout

APPEARANCE: Clear black pour yields a three finger, fizzy, crackly, foamy tan head with half-decent retention. Black body with no real carbonation evident. Foamy head crackles down to a good film and clings slightly to the glass. Half wisp remains leaving some decent lacing on the glass as it empties. This one finishes alright but the initial pour and head leaves a bit to be desired.

SMELL: Definite bourbon barrel, oak, cinnamon, sweet vanilla cream, coconut and milk chocolate on the nose. Bold enough with enough barrel and some alcohol.

TASTE: Cinnamon, bourbon barrel, oak and creamy sweetness at the swallow. More barrel character and some booze at the swallow with a bold and impressive finish of bourbon, oak, cinnamon, sweet vanilla cream, coconut, butterscotch and toffee, as well as some milk chocolate and bitter dark chocolate lingering very nicely on the palate. A touch of alcohol but not much. The finish on this one is superb.

PALATE: Medium-fuller body with medium carbonation. Silky on the palate, enough weight as well, goes down smooth with a bit of a bite and finishes somewhat sticky. A bit of heat lingers.

OVERALL: This was excellent. Really enjoyed this one, as the base bourbon barreled stout was excellent and the cinnamon addition right up my alley. The head on this one could be a little stronger but other than that, this is a first class offering from a first class stout brewer. Thanks again, desp59! Can never get enough of these guys.

Tan head. Black color.

Lots of cinnamon. Crazy to get this amount of cinnamon from the barrels. Lots of whiskey and oak. Chocolate. Roasted malts. Some dryness.

Really solid. Could be a bit thicker, but that’s typical of cycle.

Nice dark pour. Smell is not huge but nice. Good cinnamon flavor and the base beer seems excellent. I do not think it lives up to a huna or abraxas. But this is a nice beer none the less. Very smooth.

Pours black with little head. Smells of cinnamon and a touch of barrel. Taste follows suit. Flavors are present, but not very strong. Was expecting a bit more.

On tap at the brewery. Black body. Medium mocha head. Smells of cinnamon and whiskey. Tastes of cinnamon, whiskey, aggressive dark chocolate malt. Bitter. Roasty. Boozy. Cinnamon lingers. Heavy. The least sweet of the bunch, but it's still enormous.

Poured from 22oz bottle into a snifter.

Pretty thick body, black and more viscous than other cycle beers ive had. Small brown head that reduces to a ring.

Aromas are heavy on the cinnamon and cocoa with lots of barrel in there. On the tongue is cinnnamon, roasty malt, chocolate, light vanilla-bourbon, finishing roasty and charred. Medium heavy mouthfeel with low carbonation.
