Moreno's was on my radar for awhile, mainly for the mezcal and tequila selection, but also for the wide selection and deep discounted beers on occasion. While you may find a dusty beer graveyard at Binnys or elsewhere, Moreno's puts the older stuff on sale for cheap, and sometimes you can find some nice gems that may not even be all that "old".

For a small to mid-size store, these guys are really doing it right. They specialize and have excellent service with guys that really know their stuff. Louis helped us navigate the beer aisles and also the mezcal selection, which is the best in the city if not the entire country, seriously. Lots of great recommendations and help from Mike also.

Selection of beers isn't huge, but the quality was off the charts. Mikerphone, St. Errant, Scratch, Prairie, 18th St. cans, BFM Abbaye de Saint Bon-Chien, BA Lake Effect 750s, Off Color 750s, lots of current Pipeworks, and much more. They keep up with Beermenus and Instagram which is very helpful.

The store itself has the standard liquor store vibe, the beer is past the L-shaped counter and in the room to the right. They had some homemade Mexican sweets at the counter that were cheap (40 cents) and very delicious. Free parking in the back. A real diamond in the rough.

This is one of the small stores not to far from my house but I never seem to find time to stop. I finally stopped in and I was pretty impressed. It has several doors but the only door that opens is at the corner of the building. As I walked in right beside the cashier was a cart full of craft beer with 20% and 50% markdown signs on it. Some Founder's, New Belgium, and a few other local good beers. This place specializes in spirits from many different South American countries, and they have a case of spirits to sample if you ask.

As weave around to the back of the store past the stacks of beer in cases, there is a nice wall of craft beer with a cooler off to your left. The selection is not huge but the focus on local craft brewers. I was shocked to see more 20% and 50% mark downs and not just hoppy beers but some beer that age pretty well. They carried a good number of 3 Floyds, Revolution and Solomon Oath and more. They keep their menu updated on Beermenus aswell.

When I was strolling to the check out I ran into the owner or manager Rose. She was very nice and excited to have someone buying craft beer, and some mescals so we talked about both for a bit. She said they hoped to get Pipeworks beers but they are on the waiting list.

This had a great feel of a little family owned store and a place where some good beers may sit a little longer than much more popular stores. So if you are traveling into the city on the Ike (290) in might be worth stopping to pick up some beer.

Also the signs said Cash Only for discounted craft beers but I was buying other things so they let me use a credit card. I really didn't have any complaints about the freshness of any of the beers that I bough there.
