On tap at Hamilton Family Brewery in Rancho Cucamonga, CA.

Pours an opaque super dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to a partial film on top of the beer. Foamy swaths of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa powder, and coffee bean aromas. Taste is much the same with cocoa powder, char, and slight coffee bean flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of roast bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and medium bodied mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer that is tasty and easy to drink.

Serving type: on tap.

Midnight Oil comes out like a Foreign/Export Stout. A thick, sweet beer with molasses, brown sugar, and brownie mix notes.

Pours an extremely dark brown, almost black. Smell is of coffee grounds, bitter dark chocolate, and slight nutty scents. Tastes perfectly represents the smell. Very nice coffee and bitter chocolate tastes, slight nuttiness, with a warming alcohol feel. The mouthfeel has been vastly improved since my last tasting. Thicker, creamier, perfectly carbonated. Surprising that a small local brewery has an exemplary stout. I'll definitely be back for more.
