Very Good
Cael & Crede AleCael & Crede Ale
Notes: An amber ale that is distinctly Irish, the unforgettable flavour of Cael and Crede comes from its aging in genuine Irish Whiskey oak barrels. Using locally sourced Irish malts and the purest water from the river Shannon, Cael and Crede's remarkable taste boasts rich toffee with a creamy oak and dry whiskey finish.

Interesting beer.
Pours a medium foamy off-white head, medium retention, nice soapy lacing, rocky head, clear auburn slight brown color

Nose smells like typical Irish/Scottish barrel aged beer, plenty of sweet toasted malt, grainy sweet, caramel, toffee, molasses and rum characters, some nice rich smooth whiskey as well, dark fruits, fig-date like, rum-raisin, toasted oak and a little buttery oak

Taste brings plenty more sweet malts, caramel and toffee up front, with more dried fruits, fig, date, more rum-raisin characters as well with a fair molasses and rum blending into the smooth Irish whisky, getting a bit of a toasted grain, big toasted sweet bread crust, a bit of hop bitterness with a mild herbal spicy hop flavor, toasted buttery oak, smooth rich whisky again and butterscotch toffee lingering, fairly dry but a touch sticky sweet

Mouth is med bod, medium carb, a little fuller syrupy like

Overall not bad, enjoyable beer with plenty of sweet malts, dried fruits, good barrel and whisky characters

Barrel aging makes this beer smooth though unremarkable. Oak taste brings something extra to the standard red ale format. Thin bodied, copper colored brew, with very distinct toffee overtones.

Pours hazy, chestnut brown in color with 1/4 inch head. Taste is big smoked peat, caramel, whiskey, and toasted malt. Heavy bodied, sweet, smoky, with moderate carbonation. An Irish rauchbier. This is delicious. One of my favorite Irish beers. Need to get this again.

Vintage 2018 bottled well over a year ago, served in a snifter glass from the bottle.

Appearance: Semi hazy dark amber color with medium bubbles and a orange tinted white head rising roughly half an inch.

Smell: The light light aroma is bland but consists of whiskey and malt aroma but so subtle it's hard worth bragging over.

Taste: As the beer warms up it definitely gets better. Slight sweet, woody and touch of whiskey.

Mouth: Touch dry with deep wood feel and sticky but not overly done.

Overall: Good brew, little different and somewhat of a blend between a scotch ale and dry hopped IPA. The flavor is definitely robust and smooth. Happy saint paddy's....Salud!

660 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 10/29/2016. Bottle code L302161A. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper/light reddish color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread; with light notes of nuts, leather, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malts, fruity yeast, and light-moderate Irish whiskey barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, and brown bread; with light notes of nuts, leather, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness. Light herbal/grassy hop and whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, raisin, plum, fig, peach, pear, apricot, red apple, whiskey, toasted oak, biscuit, brown bread, nuts, leather, herbal, grass, and yeast/oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, fruity yeast, and light-moderate Irish whiskey barrel flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness and whiskey/oak spiciness balance; and no cloying flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and whiskey/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly sticky/tannic mouthfeel that is nice. Zero warming alcohol for 6.5%. Overall this is a very nice barrel aged Irish red ale. All around nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, fruity yeast, and light-moderate Irish whiskey barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/tannic/drying finish. Great balance of nicely rich malts and fruity yeast complexity; with nice barrel presence/integration. Not a lot of barrel, but adequate enough. A very enjoyable offering, and well made base style example.

Dark caramel to walnut brown with a uniform khaki foam blanket.

Smell features plenty of caramel and toffee as well as an herbal sort of Irish woodiness.

A smoothly soft flavor of sticky toffee pudding comes with a touch of whiskey and biscuit.

A mild froth runs through a medium body with a semi-dry finish.

Lovely amber color with a moderate head. Appealing aroma, malty and lightly caramel. As others have mentioned, the taste is dominated by biscuit and toasted malt, without being cereal. Balanced carbonation, light on the palate.

Overall, this is a welcoming beer that works well by itself, or accompanying a wide variety of foods. The whiskey tones are muted, providing some additional depth without stealing the show. I'll continue to hoard this for as long as it's available at Costco.

L: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark amber color and and a somewhat cloudy consistency. There was a small amount of foamy, off white head that quickly dissipated. Not much lacing to speak of.

S: A very underwhelming aroma of malt, toffee, hops, and whiskey.

T: Tasted of a fair amount of sweet malt (more dominant than anything else), a fair amount of hops, some toffee (could have used more), light whiskey notes, and some vanilla as well. The problem with the flavor here is that it's pretty watery and unfortunately thin. Needed to be stronger.

F: A decent amount of carbonation with a smooth, albeit thin and watery finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This is one of those beers that kind of falls flat in most categories. Could have been better.

Nice ruby hue with an off white 2 finger head that dropped rather quickly to a cover...splotchy lace left during the session.
Biscuity malts, caramel and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Flavor runs down the same road along with some hints of oak on the palate. Slick yet a bit dry on the finish. Carbonation settles with time and you get a light medium mouthfeel. Nice! I'll have to get a few more for the Holiday weekend.

From the bottle, it pours a lovely clear reddish amber with a large, thick light tan head. Lacing. Scents of vanilla and caramel malt tickle the nose. In the mouth, it is a toffee caramel malt sensation! Smooth and creamy in the mouth. Yum!

Note: I am not a red ale fan, but this may make me a convert!

660mL bottle, marketed as "new to the market" at the Hy-Vee in DeKalb, IL
A - deep red body with a creamy tan head
S - malty nose with toffee, caramel, oak, vanilla, herbal woodsy hops, whiskey
T - big and bold flavors with loads of sweet maltiness: toffee, caramel, toasted grain, brown sugar, oak, vanilla, earthy and herbal hops, all rounded put with an ample amount of Irish whiskey
M - fuller body, moderate carbonation, nice dry finish
O - really good whiskey barrel aged ale. Really glad I found this and took a chance on it. I love all things Irish, and this hit the mark! I'd buy it again if I come across it.
