Notes / Commercial Description:
Three breweries from three points on the compass--- Stone Brewing from the US West Coast, Japan's Coedo Brewery and New Zealand's Garage Project--- bring their combined experience, creativity and inspirations to this utterly unique collaborative brew.

Brewed at Coedo Brewery on a suitably rainy day in June 2015.

Tsuyu, named after the gentle "plum rain" that falls in Japan as the Ume harvest ripens, is a new take on the saison style. Brewed with American Jarrylo and New Zealand Motueka hops, Tsuyu is infused with Ume plum and red perilla leaf and aged in freshly emptied New Zealand Chardonnay barrels. The result is a complex and fascinating fusion of East, West and South. Kanpai!

Bomber poured into a wine glass at Artichoke Cafe in Albuquerque.

Beautiful liquid, blonde/golden with radiant carbonation that gives a champagne vibe. Pale white head sits a quarter finger thick.

Smells floral, sweet with plums and touches of a malt base.

Flavor is quite unique. A lot of plum wine quality here, complemented by a light note of sweet bready malt, hints of vanilla, fresh flowers, and a clean yeast.

It's incredibly easy to sip and has a superb prickly carbonation that refreshes without distracting. Tartness sneaks in and is light to medium. It's got some body but still drinks light and doesn't show any of its 9%.

I instantly wanted more than one bottle. It's good and a standout for the plum flavor and the light tartness. Very good.

Not loving this, on tap at District in NYC into wine goblet. Not a saison. Aroma of apple and raisin, flavor is cloying plum wine, tart apple and vanilla. Mouth is very slick. Call this an imperial fruit beer or experimental, so not a saison.

A: Moderately fruity with a light citrusy aroma from the resiny/citrusy hops, lightly spiced and vinous, faint plum and perilla leaf that has an apple/mint aroma.

A: Light yellow color, good clarity, with a moderate frothy white head. There is light lacing in the glass.

T: Moderately fruity and lightly spiced, moderate alcohol presence. The plums are noticeable in the background, fairly strong Chardonnay flavor, with a faint minty flavor (perilla leaf). The beer is well attenuated and finishes quite dry.

M: Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation.

O: Solid; the beer has an interesting combination of plum, mint, and Chardonnay aromas and flavors. The strong saison flavor, interplaying with the plums gives a flavor redolent of plum wine. Personally, I’d like to see a sessionable version of this beer, because while tasty it is fairly strong!

Aroma is on the sweet side with caramel, fruit, wheat, bit of yeast; not a lot like a saison. Flavor's better in that way with more yeast flavor and some pungency; also citrus and some spice. Good saison, but not great.
