ive been getting really into esoteric foreign craft stuff, and some of what is happening in asia right now is really fascinating me. this is a neat pale ale from a brewery i am starting to see around in colorado a little bit, but i fear i may not have gotten the freshest can of this. the nose indicates a little staleness to me right away. i cant fault a low alcohol pale ale that has come here from japan tasting a little beat up, but i bet this is fantastic closer to the source. it has a nice malt backbone, a little caramel and warmth to it, definitely barley primarily, but not bland like a lot of american maltier pales. the hops are sort of piney and bitter, but understated, this is definitely not flirting the ipa line like its so popular to do now in the states. this doesnt even really smell or taste dry hopped to me. whats interesting is the yeast, which really is the element in all these foreign craft beers that interests me most. this is sort of english, its far from flavorless, bready and creamy for a flash, really working hard to dry this out and bubble it up, and its highly successful. thats my takeaway from this, is that the yeast is cool and i wish it were a little fresher. maybe someday i will visit the brewery and experience it in all its intended glory...

The label recommends drinking at 13 degrees. Screw that pretentious nonense, I like my beer cold. Has a pleasant aroma of pencil shavings and when I dirnk it I feel like a real hawaiian party animal. Women flock to me and hair grows where there was no hair. A good beer. Drink it.

The aroma has a nice citrus and pine hop character; there is some underlying caramel sweetness. The frothy, off-white head is long lasting; the copper/deep amber body is brilliantly clear. The upfront flavor is caramel-like sweetness; the bitterness is moderate; there is some orange and grapefruit from the citrusy hops. The body is medium-light with crisp carbonation.

Pleasantly balanced and drinkable, though not the best example of an American-style pale ale. The malt sweetness is especially prominent in the flavor, while the hop flavors are rather subdued. It really is quite tasty though.

This beer tastes like a very common people pleaser APA mixed with lemon zest. The lemon addition is very complementary to the beer. It is not sour or sweet, just naturally there. Easy to drink.
