Bought at an Aeon in Okinawa, Japan.

Only the slightest amount of hazing, golden, decent but thin head. Smell is good, not a lot going on but a decent amount of piney hops with some sweetness and maybe a hint of citrus. Taste is very good for a Japanese IPA. Good amount of hops without too much malt coming through. A bit fizzy for mouthfeel but a good lingering hop piney-ness.

Overall this is a really good Japanese IPA. If I had this in the states I might pass it by with so many good US offerings but as I struggle to find good IPAs in Japan that don't cost 10 dollars a pint at a local craft beer bar, this is a very welcome addition to Aeon's normal stock. I probably rated this a little higher than it deserves just because I'm so happy to find this. Doesn't touch Torpedo or others in terms of price/taste/availability but at about 260 yen a can this has become one of my staples.

Crystal-clear, golden hued body; thick, foamy and fizzy, white head. Nice pine aroma with lots of caramel sweetness. Caramel malt flavors with a terse, almost biting hop bitterness. Medium bodied; slightly coarse; finish begins with a sugary sweetness and ends with a mostly dry character.

A decent IPA that drinks easily enough. It seems decently balanced and has a fair amount of depth as far as flavor and aroma go yet does not set itself readily apart from other IPAs.

Look: Hazy pale yellow with streaks of orange. Big head is kinda rocky and dissipates fairly quickly. Active carbonation.

Smell: Grapefruit, light pine and resin. Something sweet in there too. Not quite caramel. Can't quite put my finger on it.

Taste: Light tropical fruit and very light pine. Some bready malt. Not much going on here.

Feel: Lighter body. Pretty crisp and clean. Fun carbonation,

Overall: Kinda tastes like an American IPA. Very well balanced but not very hoppy or malty. meh. You can totally pass this one up. Not really missing much.

Poured from a can into a glass near Haiki.
Half finger of head tops an auburn clear beer.
It smells amazing. Loads of piney hops. Lemon accents.
What are these lukewarm reviews? This is a good beer and, for Japan, a godsend. Akin to Brew Free or Die-- malty-fruity with a seriously bitter-herbal bite on the latter half of the taste. Lingeringly hoppy.
Crisp and sweet-citrus-dry and really enjoyable.
Recommended! One of my favorite Japanese beers.

This beer had a sweet smell and after taste to it, it made me think of the asian honeydew drink that you find in asian grocery stores. As far as tastes go, it was hoppy, but not as bitter as some of the other IPA's I've tasted. Overall, I enjoyed it. It wasn't amazing, but definitely a good IPA to try out.

Has some sweetness in the flavor profile that helps balance the hops but it's a little strange for an IPA. The sweetness also adds a creaminess to the mouthful. Part of me likes it, but part of me wishes I were drinking a better IPA.

A: Topped with 4 fingers of yellow head that fades before your eyes in a couple minutes. Yellow orange body with very little carbonation.

S: Grapefruit, pine, turpentine, orange zest, smelly foot, tropical fruit punch.

T: Sweet with tropical fruit notes, papaya, ripe mango, jackfruit, alcohol mostly covered but appears in the nose as fumes. Bitter grapefruit aftertaste.

M: Sappy with a light syrupy quality, virtually no carbonation, lightly sticky finish.

O: Got and drank in CNX Feb 17th, 2015. I see low ratings on this one, but I think it’s a great attempt from Japan. Borders on a double IPA, and is quite interesting. Cool artistry on the can.

one of my fav IPAs, this is sold across all the country, mostly in lawson and familymart(but not in every store, in fact, in some areas it's quite hard to find), about 250~280JPY per 0.33 can. very huge bit of taste resembles orange/grapefruit, with a long-lasting aftertaste. IMO, this should have more score, but whatever, if you're coming to japan, try getting this one instead of other pop-stuff.

I get yhis a the convenience store around the corner so drink this quite often.Hops aren't over the top but has a nice malt flavour. Slides down nice and easy:)
Yo-ho brewing's website doesn't mention this being an American IPA.
In fact it won a silver medal in English IPA class.

I am surprised this is a fairly decent IPA from Japan, where Happoshu dominated that market.

Poured into tulip. Pale amber. One finger head. Nice lacing.
Smells was hints of citrus and caramel.
Taste is much followed the smell, somewhat too bitter, still pretty drinkable IMO.
Light to medium bodied.
Overall I think this is a classic IPA that does not have any off characters, it is not so outstanding, either.

Aroma is predominantly caramel malt with pine in the background. Pours a one-finger, off-white head; moderate retention and good lacing. Body is clear, deep gold. Characteristic intense bitterness; grassy, pine-like hops; alcohol; just a touch of sweetness. Medium body; crisp, light carbonation.

Not a bad American IPA, but overall lacking a sense of balance and nuance. Aroma expresses more malt than hop, while the malt sweetness in the flavor is insufficient to serve a supporting role.

Date on the bottom of the can indicates 12/31/13

A: Light yellow or peach in color. Fairly cloudy. Forms a smaller bubbly head. Decent retention and lots of lacing.

S: Not a whole lot going on here. Bready with a mix of mild floral and mild spicy notes.

T: Taste is a bit better and represents an interesting take on the style. Light, but not at all unflavorful. Mild to moderate sweetness. Flavor is sort of lemon-lime, almost Sprite-like, but with a fairly aggressive bitterness (which is not at all Sprite-like). Maybe a little herbal green tea in the mix.

M: On the lighter side of medium. Fairly aggressive bitterness considering the lightness of the flavors of the beer. Medium carbonation.

O: A pretty good beer. It's a different take on the style, less malty than an East Coast American IPA, but with more bitterness and a much more subtle hop-flavor than a West Coast American IPA. Can't justify the price ($5 for a single 12oz can), but I am glad I was able to give it a try.

Nice amber color, a little bit cloudy, with about 1 finger of foam and a little bit of lacing on the glass.

I don't typically have high expectations for the smell of a beer that comes from a can, but this one was surprisingly good. Nice bready malt with citris and just enough hops smell to let you know that first sip is going to be good.

Malty and somewhat sweet carmel taste with a clean, but not overwhelming hops finish. If you want to be knocked over by the hops taste in your IPA this might not be your favorite. If you want a bit milder, but still good flavor give this beer a try.

Mouthfeel is smooth and well carbonated.

A little bit different from most American IPA's due to the sweeter carmel flavor and milder hops, but still very enjoyable.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours medium golden amber with a fine half finger white head with great retention and lacing; nice active carbonation. Great aroma of melon and tropical fruit, caramel and bready malt and light citrus hops. Flavor is very malty with caramel and bready malt, citrus, lightly piney hops and a nice amount of stone and tropical fruit. Medium bodied with a pleasant creaminess. A nice take on the malty style of IPA with good hop support and juicy flavors in the background. It could be a bit attenuated in hops because it may be an older can, but the hops still hold their own. A nice malty IPA.

Pours a hazy orange with a foamy orange-white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Foamy patches of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and citrus aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and slight herbal hop flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of hop bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is an above average beer that is malt forward and displays a fairly unbalanced hop bitterness in my opinion.

12oz can poured into a little glass hotel tumbler

Pours very clear, light coppery-pink, small amount of coarse pale head, some carbonation. Smell is mild, a tiny bit of honey suckle, a little bit of spicy hops.

Taste is bittersweet. Seems like a clash between the two, rather than a harmony. The bitterness is such that it has a drying affect on the mouth, which is in contrast to the honeysuckle/floral sweetness. I have mixed feelings about it.

Mouthfeel is dry. Overall, this is not a bad beer. It's interesting. And I might just be happy to be able to buy an IPA in Japan easily now. Not the best example of an IPA, but better for my preferences than another Kirin or Asahi.

Pours golden with good head/lacing.

Nose: Agreed with lacqueredmouse on the slight "extract" qualities. Malt is kind of reminiscent of a creme brulee or custard tart. Definitely a malt-dominated nose, caramelised fruits and sticky rice. Quite clean and fresh though.

Taste: More general sort of fruit custard/peaches and custard type smells. Does have a finishing bitterness which is easily commensurate with the style.

Mouthfeel is smooth and highly carbed with some (pleasant) cooked rice notes and a lingering bitterness.

Not what you would necessarily expect from an American IPA but actually quite enjoyable. Very drinkable with no off-notes. And definitely enough bitterness to justify the style.

350ml can purchased (along with the Tokyo Black) from Slowbeer in Melbourne.

Pours a very pleasant orange golden colour, with some mild haze and a frothy, but quite firm head of off-white. Speckled, patchy lace forms after a while. Fine but minimal carbonation. Overall, it looks like a pretty good brew.

Nose is a touch grainy, certainly more than I expected and certainly more than I'd like. Slight malt-extract sweetness, and even a hint of turmeric. Weird. Under all of this is, in fact, a slight sharp orange rind character, and a tang a little like chlorine. It's not altogether bad, in other words, but it does miss the mark somewhat.

Taste is similarly disappointing. Here, the sweetness is still pronounced, but is trounced by a big herbal bitterness, that's almost chemical and burning in its intensity. Almost ashy flavours come through mid palate, and tannic bitterness on the back mingling with that heavy, goopy barley sugar sweetness. Burning white rum or rubbing alcohol finish it up. This is actually swerving towards offensive.

Overall, there's much wrong with this beer. It's intense without purpose, unbalanced, and yet the characters it pushes so strongly are not even pleasant on their own. Given the Tokyo Black was such a pleasant beer, I was very disappointed in this one.

350 mL aluminum can poured into pint glass, creating a tall thick foam which clings to the class. Beer is a very pale orange and just slightly hazy. Faint sweet/skunky aroma that doesn't particularly suggest IPA.

Flavor however brings bitterness up front and fills my mouth with a particular hop flavor. The body is just big enough to support the hop load with no detectable sweetness, although the carbonation is a little bit sharp. There's some other flaw's maybe a little bit soapy?

Overall I'm enjoying this more than the Yona Yona Ale but not as much as the Tokyo Black. That said, there are a million better American IPAs out there which are easier to find at a fraction the price.

Hazy golden colour with a fluffy, white head. Good head retention.

Some soft malt notes, sweetness and touches of earthiness. Not bad but not quite an IPA.

Sweet maltiness with lots of caramel notes. Not all that complex. Moderate bitterness. Lacking hop flavour.

Medium body with moderate carbonation. Fine.

A solid beer but not an IPA really. This needs a big dose of late hops to bring out a juicy, fruity flavour and aroma.

Pours amber with a small, fading head.
Nose shows sweet caramel and soft pine. Somewhat faint.
Restrained flavours, with a bit of grapefruit hops and some sweet bready malt followed by an assertive bitterness.
Could use more carbonation.
Not overly complex but enjoyable nonetheless.

I paid $4.00 for this can wich is alot, but I wanted to try something from a brewery I had not had before.Poured a burnt orange infused medium golden with a 1/2 finger white head that was gone pretty quickly.Alot of citrusy hops in the nose, not bitter just very juicy and fruity,a light biscuit malt note lingers.A decent shot of those citrusy hops hit at the onset on the palate but they come to an ubrupt end,the biscuit malt is more pronounced than in the aromas. It's ok but the flavors don't meld together good enough,oh well glad I tried it.
