Not a bitter. Not even sure what this was.

Pours a golden yellow. Sudsy white head. Smelled faintly of earthy, musty malt and a tad bit of ... I don't know, pine sol.

Taste is muddled and not sure what to make of it. Is that ... a grainy corn-y taste? Not pleasing. The malt has a strange, earthy quality to it, and the hops basically just add a dash of bitterness.

Thin, watery. I mean, not awful, but not very good, either.

This bitter was a stretch at best. Seemed to be a pale ale with a tart backing of malt that way missed the delicate ESB bitter balance. Granted, ESBs and bitters are not easy to do, but this one unfortunatley was all chalk and apple. A tad too sloppy but kudos for the brewpub to make a difficult style. I go here all the time when I travel to SoCal so I route for SteelHead to get better.
