Brewed by:
Arcadia Brewing Company
Michigan, United States

Style: English India Pale Ale (IPA)

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 6.00%

Availability: Year-round

Notes / Commercial Description:
Dry-hopped with Columbus hops in our open fermenters, our IPA boasts a bright floral aroma and flavor reminiscent of pine and lemon peel. The pronounced hop bitterness is balanced by a medium-bodied caramel and biscuity malt character with a nutty finish. It showcases many subtle earthy bitter notes, rather than the resinous citrus-rind bite often featured in many American-style IPA's.

Poured into a chalice.

A: Pale orange with a lot of sediment floating around. A decent, if not overly dense, head dissipates quickly leaving minimal lacing.

S: Fruity almost like bubblegum. If you really try, you get a little pine and a touch of citrus - this does not smell like a typical IPA.

T: Ruby red grapefruit, pine, and a little bit of orange. Refreshing and crisp, not bad at all.

M: Crisp, moderate carbonation lends a slight dryness.

D: Nothing too shocking here. Easy to drink, but not spectacular which is like most of the Arcadia beers I've tasted. Mild recommendation.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a semi-hazy golden color with a finger and a half’s worth of white frothy head. Sly lace. The aroma had a bright citrusy hop burst over some earthy hop bitterness. Light leafy dryness with a little bit of floral to herbal character. The flavor dryly leaned towards the sweet side in a malty sort of way. Hop tones seem a bit dispersed to allow the malt base become a bit sturdier and run throughout the aftertaste. Slight malty sort of finish. The feel was almost medium bodied with a good carbonation about it. ABV felt as appropriate. Fairly smooth along my tongue. Overall, pretty nicely done English styled IPA that seemed a bit cleaner than others of it's style brewed by Americans. I'd definitely give this another try if every seen again.

This was not good. Super foamy, carbonated, almost sour flavor with mild hop bitterness. This is the strangest ipa I have ever had. Lots of sediment in there too, and not in a good way. Sometimes it can be appealing, this looked like dirt and sand.

Dark yellow, 1/3" white head. Aroma was mostly grain and alcohol, not even noble hops penetrated the senses here.

Taste is your traditional English ipa, went for the woody malt tones, toffee and earth. Balanced. Goes for those biscuit nuts in the mouthfeel. Mild tea herbal tones. Average carbonation. Pretty average stuff.

Had on cask at Big E's in Midland.poured into a standard pint a brass color with that flat creamy cask head atop.Very light aromas, mild floral hops and light toasted malt. An English IPA no doubt here for the flavor profile, herbal and grassy hops over top of bready lightly sweet malts.A subtle easy drinking IPA,sociable but actually a little boring.

Split a mixed twelve pack with kmpitz2...onto the IPA. Pours a nice deep, vibrant orange with some suspended floaties. A nice frothy white head caps off the brew nicely. A nice citric, grapefruity Cascade aroma is initially noticeable along with some herbal spiciness. Sweet sugary caramel covered bread. I like the hop mix here.

First sip brings a somewhat laid back mix of citric and spicy herbal hops along with a bready, doughy malt background. Hints of caramel peek through along with a slight sour flavor. There's not really as much bitterness as I would like.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a mellow carbonation. Quite easy to drink. I could have a few of these no problem...it's a nice, enjoyable English IPA.

12 oz bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a large fluffy white head that retains well and laces the glass.

The aroma is grains and an odd mint and floral burnt plastic leather hoppiness.

The flavor is a little odd as well - some sweet fruity malts with a leathery ashy floral hoppiness that has a decent level of bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium with smooth carbonation.

Overall, I didn't really care for this one. It had a bunch of strange notes to it.

Pours a murky copper with a massive rocky head and thick lacing. Aroma is pleasant blend of pine and grapefruit with an offputting dishsoap smell. Taste is grapefruit, and pine with mild malt sweetness. Very dry bitter finish. Mouthfeel is rather thin. Wouldn't want to drink more than one. Relatively average IPA.

12 oz bottle from a sampler box. Pours a hazy apricot body, mostly foam from overcarbonation. Body is awash with tiny carbonation bubbles. Huge head is beige in color, retains well and is pitted and rocky.

Aroma is nicely balanced between spicy and floral hops and caramel maltiness. A pleasant note of green apple esters.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and overcarbonated(as all the Arcadia brews).

Taste is spicy and bitter hops, with a note of florals. Pleasant presence of English style maltiness adds a toffee maltiness. Finishes slightly dry with a fresh hops aftertaste. Not bad. Would probably resemble an English IPA if not for the overcarbonation.

Good drinkability, but I wish Arcadia would do something about the overcarbonation that seems so prevalent in their bottled line.

Sampled on tap In Ann Arbor , MI., Poured honey/apricot amber, tiny bubble head and then film, left a delicate coating of fine lacing, nice. Grainy, leafy hop nose. Medium bodied IPA, lots of grainy hop flavor. NIce malt counterpoint adds up a balanced, smooth drinking ale. Slightly watery in the center, but finishes with more hops flavor flowing on the tongue. Pleasant sessioner.

Thank you hopdog for including this as an extra in a trade.

Nice thick head on this IPA. Smells nice an hoppy, like I hopped it would. Funny how one can go from malt to hops in no time on their b-day. I owe it to the Foo FIghters for I get around.

Thick, and I mean oily thick IPA here folks. Not a whimpy IPA in the least. This bitch kicks ass and takes names. Not for the "eh yeah, I guess I like hops sometimes" crowd. This is a solid IPA brew.

Thanks to bort11 for a bottle. The beer foamed over when I opened it and I said "Uh-oh!" It took a good 15 minutes to pour it out because of the foam. Not much of a hoppy smell and it tastes a little flat for an IPA (even an English one). The beer tastes overcarbonated which affects the mouthfeel and drinkability. I will pass on this beer in the future.

Unimpressed by Arcadia IPA. There are some very obvious defects in this beer, I'm not sure if it's supposed to be like this. First and foremost, in the aroma, I smell that plastic-y, band-aid, chlorinated smell that I usually correlate with contamination or a hot fermentation. Also, the fact that it's overcarbonated means that it could be an infection. There is bitterness, but this is not a good tasting beer with characteristics that I like. If it's not contaminated, then this is a poorly made beer and either way, I recommend against buying and or drinking this beer.

A dark yellow pour, minimal head, aroma was a confluence of grain and alcohol.

Taste, a good deal for the English version. Not as good as hopmouth, but more in line with tradition (which is a negative). It is definitely better than your standard English ipa from the island(s), but in the end, you just want them to push the envelope more into West Coast ipa territory if that's your bag. Toffee is nice and all, but I'd like a little more.

Dark amber appearance and essentially clearish. Milky head, clings to the glass in pretty nice partial Belgian lace patterns. Flowery aroma, almost similar to a cheap cologne. Pretty full in body, the carbonation is there but quite low in its assertion. First impression nice flavors in some aspects, especially at first (it gets a bit annoying) -- thick and malty but buttery with caramel. Its IPA status may be confirmed by aromatic floral notes that almost verge on candyish overall. Seems schizophrenic in many ways, diacetyl in character and thickish, the English hop profile doesn't quite drag it back and it seems overall odd for the style in a number of ways.

Appearance: Copper slightly hazed tone with a full bubbly cream tinted head leaves impressive patches of well dispersed lacing. Aroma: Herbal, floral, and citrus mixture of hops with a tone of nutty caramel malt sweetness chiling there. Taste: Bitter upfront with a citrus twang absorb most of the malts here not as English as I was expecting. Hop flavors are muted a bit by the bitterness I feel that there many other IPAs out there I would go for over this one. Mouthfeel: Medium body slightly sticky enjoyable but a bit forgettable evenly carbonated can't complain too much. Drinkability: A beer that I was happy to try, but I can't say I will miss having a steady supply of this one.
