The first in a limited edition, Brew Crew Big Beer Series. 1080 OG; 76 IBU
This remarkably balanced brew has a deep amber hue with a generous white head. Hopmouth showcases a rich, toasty flavor and sweet caramel notes because of the high-quality Maris Otter Malt used. The hops are up front in the aroma reminiscent of citrus and pine, while the resin-like flavors linger well after the last sip.

Nice DIPA from the brewery that first got me into craft brews. While mild compared to some NW doubles, the flavor is nice and clean, even some caramel malts slip through the dense hops. A bit flat on the finish, but good all around.

Appearance: darker than expected; a rich, muddy orange color; a nice white head that thins out but sticks around
Aroma: citrus is the dominant smell-grapefruit and lemon mostly; hop is certainly present but not as strong as I was expecting; a little malty sweetness
Taste: follows the nose exactly; starts with some very nice citrus notes especially lemon; this flavor is sustained as some of the caramel sweetness from the malt comes in; that is displaced by a very nice hop kick at the end, with a subtle trace of pine; the hop sticks with you for quite a while afterwards, but this is a welcome and pleasant experience
Mouthfeel: thick…almost chewy; a bit clingy; carbonation is hidden by the thickness, but is there and I think it works pretty well
Overall Impression: no real surprises here, it’s everything you would expect from a good IPA (or DIPA as the case may be); not all that complex, but it doesn’t need to be; it’s very good for what it is and what it claims to be; a solid brew that I will look for again
